For anyone without a credit card (which you need to set up a sellers account on ebay) or just those of you that don't want the hassle of listing your stuff online. There are companies called "eBay Trading Assistants" who can sell (or buy) stuff on eBay for you.

A couple of friends of mine just set up a company specialising in this in the Dublin area. For anyone interested, the website address is http://www.reveal.ie

Mods, I felt okay posting this as I've no financial interest in this company and it could be of use to posters here. I've seen boards.ie posters looking for this type of service before on AH but if you feel this is pimping, feel free to remove it.

*** Folks try and keep this thread spam free and just a collection of useful links ***

Theres another service on trial called 3v, it may suit some folks better than reveal.ie
    www.3v.ie
Its a temporary credit card, issued by visa and TSB as the merchant bank. Its only on trial at the moment, and as such can only be bought in a few newsagents in Dublin.

For those without a credit card, you can buy these in varying values and use it exactly as you would a credit card. Similar to your prepaid mobile phone credit.

Mabye a mod could stickie some links from this thread? Theres a bunch more tools and services out there to make online buying, etc. easier.
Same boat as Sleepy, I have no financial interest in this product, just posting for informative sake

    http://www.auctionsniper.com/

Auction Sniper is your 'bot' which lurks and fires in a last minute bid for you with 5 seconds to go. It will bid mulitple times up to your preset limit in the 5 seconds .

Charge is about 1% (IIRC) of the winning value or so , and is only incurred if you win, but well worth it IMO .

You can preload your auction sniper account with credit using Paypal . I normally leave €10 on it which covers me for c . €1000 of succesful sniping at a time. Three free snipes if you simply sign yourself up .

First watch the items by adding them to your watch list and then log into auction sniper to load them and set the snipe limits .

For precautionary security reasons I changed my eBay password when I signed up to auctionsniper so its not the same as my paypal one any more .

works with .ie and .co.uk as well as .com.

It also save you from having to lurk around eBay at the end of an auction when you would rather be in the pub :) .

www.snip.pl is cheaper. I use it all the time. When it first started out it was FREE! :D Then, as they got busier, they introduced a 15c charge for each successful "hit" — still cheaper if your buy price is >€15. And they give you 5 free ones when you join up...
[Edit: Also comes with a handy toolbar add-on "Snip-it!" button.]

sniping tools take the good out it ...and should not be promoted on this thread. Its against eBay community policy. Why should someone be outbid at the last second by somebody with a sniping tool. Its inherently wrong and undermines the whole bidding process at eBay.

Sniping offers nanosecond precise last minute bidding, say if the bidder has a slow ****ty eircom dialup line like half of Ireland .

Why should those with fibre at home have all the fun along with all the sucessful last second bid results on ebay ???

If it were really really illegal then ebay would block the snipers .

eBay will not block sniping as it often drives the price up at the last second, thereby giving eBay more revenue.

Every auction I bid on has someone bidding in the last few seconds. I hate it tbh, a bargain can turn in ok price in a second. So I like it when my maximum price is more than they have bid. But theres way too many ppl out there who just like winning like this even if it means paying way over the odds. I've seen loads of ppl paying a good bit more than the buy it now price for the same item from a different seller.

Sniping is not against eBay policy though it is not recommended by eBay. Instead, eBay recommends proxy bidding. Before bidding, you determine the maximum amount you would pay for the item and enter that as your maximum bid. eBay then bids for you up to that amount. If the bidding goes over and you don't win, then you won't have to pay more than you were prepared to pay.

What I can't understand is why this company or another one like it hasn't set up a 'Transfer Funds' service for people without Credit Cards.
    .
I know there's 3V but I'd you can only purchase with these cards and not add to your PayPal balance.

It seems easy enough to do. Just let people transfer money from say their Bank of Ireland account to the companies (or even better - accept Laser!). Then as soon as the payment arrives (instant if it's done through the same bank or via Laser) Then just PayPal them the money - Hey presto, problem sorted. I'd have no problem paying for a service like this.

I vote this for stupid post of the month. Why is it inherently wrong? Do you know how many $billion eBay turn over per year? Sniping takes the good out of it... what a stupid comment.

At the end of the day the cheaper you can get the item the better. I also use www.snip.pl and would highly recommend them.

I've been buying and selling on eBay for 4 years now. On impulse I've just set myself up as a Trading Assistant, if anyone locally has stuff to sell and hasn't got the time or enthusiasm just let me know, I'll be happy to help. I am willing collect within a 25 mile radius of Newmarket or you can bring items to me. See the link below for details:-

    Thanks Julie

ps I use the free Hammersnipe auction stealer tool, saves sitting up till 3am to buy that "must have" item

Spam Free ? Were you referring to my post ? Nothing about Spam in my posting. ? I just objected to a 'mod' being so narrow minded. ?

It is certainly not inherently wrong, in fact it plays exactly to how the bidding process works. People who get pissed off about snipers are the ones NOT following the recommended bidding process on eBay. The majority of people use ebay incorrectly, like it is a normal auction, they keep bidding and bidding again as the price increases. EBay do not recommend this. You are supposed to enter your maximum bid, this does not mean you must pay that amount if you win, it means you bid at what the next highest bidder would have been willing to pay. As mentioned before it is like bidding by proxy, and is in effect sniping itself. i.e. I bid €100 max on an item, starting bid €80. Somebody comes in 1 day before and bids €90, they are instantly outbid by me at €90. If they bid €101 a week before the auction ends or 1 second before it ends then I am outbid, - do I care - no, the maximum I said I was willing to pay was €100, not a penny more, I have only myself to blame, I should have put in the true amount I wanted to pay, and I did. One tip is to go to say €103, since many people have upper rounded limits. They may bid €101 thinking your max is €100, then give up when yours is upped to €101 thinking you max is probably a good bit more.

    What eBay does not investigate

eBay doesn't investigate simple misunderstandings, failure to communicate, and interpersonal disputes over which eBay has no control. Here are some examples of other things that eBay doesn't investigate:

    Bid Sniping (last minute bidding).
We always recommend bidding the absolute maximum you are willing to pay for an item. eBay uses a proxy bidding system, so you may bid as high as you wish, but the current bid that is registered will only be a small increment above the next lowest bid. The remainder of your Maximum Bid is held, by the system, to be used in the event someone bids against you.

If you get annoyed by sniping you are not using ebay correctly.
