For me it has to be the SNES. The hardware was a thing of beauty. It could pump out a spectacular amount of colours and the scaling and rotation looked great and opened up some new gameplay ideas. The proper translucencies looked lovely as well. Then there was the beautiful Sony custom soundchip. Still think the SNES sound effects and music are fantastic. The SNES also had an amazing amount of great games. Best RPGS of it's generation (Final Fantasy VII, Zelda LTTP, Secret of Mana etc.), best racing game of it's generation (Mario Kart), best platform games (Super Mario World 1+2), best shmup's (Axelay, Super Aleste, Area 88/UN squadron etc.) best sports game (ISS deluxe) and the best beat'em ups (superior versions of street fighter 2 and MK2). So the mega drive had Gunstar Heroes and Rocket Knight Adventures, the SNES had some decent action games like Contra 3 and Cybernator.

Next probably the GBA. Very much under powered when it came out but my god the games are fantastic especially strategy games such as advance wars and fire emblem. Only problem I have is the lack of good RPGs other than the golden sun games and fire emblem and a complete lack of a good shmup except the exceptional Gradius Advance.

Next the original GB and varients. Despite it's simplicity and black and white screen (later a colour screen) there are some fantastic game son it.

The NES is quite simple but it is amazing how well many games hold up today. Kirby, Mario 3, Castlevania 3 and Megaman 2 are as good as they were years ago.

Gamecube next. Some absolutely fantastic games. However just not enough of them. The Hardware is great. It completely annihilates the PS2 in terms of power and gives the xbox a run for it's money and still Nintendo could make a profit from selling the hardware. Easy importing is another plus point.

N64. It had some great games but many seem to had aged quite badly especially the Rareware games. Harware wise, the N64 was extremely powerful for it's time but was limited by the use of cartridges meaning low res textures and low bitrate sounds.

Any other nintendo consoles I haven't played. The DS hasn't been out long enough to make a decision on it.

Probably the gameboy series for me. They've been with me as long as my abiltiy to add 2+2. Of the series I would have to say the Advance/sp is my favorite. There are so many excellent games with unbelievably intricate scenes. Harvest moon (fomt) is probably comes out as my favorite game and is a perfect example. The areas are incredibly interactive and dynamic. Building relationships with people of the town and making a family has took more gaming hours than I have put into FFVII. It has a level of detail that many console would struggle to realise in any of their titles yet alone on a small flash card and a console that can fit in your pocket.

The nes, although it's the only console that I've played properly (as in owned).

The DS would be an easy contender if only the software was there, come back to me after christmas and my opinion may have changed.

The DS is my top contender ATM, all though I just bought a Cube. Im hopeing that the games for the DS are really going to start coming from next month on. I also hope to get some DS multiplayer done as Iv had my DS from near US launch and never played it in multiplayer!!!

SNES was fantastic. Sombody lent me one when I was in the middle of nowhere for a Christmas. AT the same time I was introduced to Pringles. I played Zelda and ate nothing but Pringles solid for about 2 weeks!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, no way how can the n64 be your worst nintendo console. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I still play N64 now, and its home to my top 3 favourite games of all time. 1. Zelda OCarina of time / 2.GoldenEYE 3. Mario64. Admitidly there werent many games out for it, and the graphics looked kind smudgy but here are the games I still have and there all classics - Goemon games were so underatted, mario kart and mario tennis were beutiful multiplayer games. Lylat wars, Donkey Knog the Banjo Kazooie games, F zero x, conkers bad fur day, perfect dark, 1080 snowboarding, wave race, zelda majoras mask. Iss 98 best football game at the time on any console, smash brothers. body harvest, blast corps. I have south park and yoshis story which are sghit. And there was a few other good ones from rare but i can remember them . No one can argue that all them games were the biz

I reckon the Game Boy, I got one of the very first ones (then the pocket one, then the colour one!) and it brings back good memories. After that, the N64. Many good times had with that too. I never played the SNES, and the PSP edged out the DS for me. Nintendo were good, I think I've just grown out of them.

    SNES ftw
    It truely was "Super" :)

one of my main regrets in life is selling my old one for a pitiful sum of money (something like £40 at the time - with 12 games iirc)
i guess at the time it seemed like a lot of money... never thought i'd miss her as much as i do now though.
playing emulated games on the xbox is all fine and dandy... but it felt like i was cheating on Samus whenever i booted up Super Metroid.
think i'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a second hand one. (or seduce the young one i sold mine to... she must be of the legal age now :p )

SNES by a long shot... quality console.
Metal Marines alone would be enough to keep me busy for hours.

    SNES. Bloody great console.

Never got into the handheld scene at all.

N64 for me the amount of games on it that i felt were top quality and i had was a joy to behold.

SNES!!! My favourite console of all time

Biggest regret was selling mine when i was younger, it was in great condition, had loads of games and sold it for some crappy sum of money

I got one again about a year ago, and to this day im still buying games off ebay for it! Waiting for Super mario world and Donkey kong to arrive at the moment!

Must get a second hand N64 at some point and look for these great games. I really didn't buy or play much of any console that 'round', but honestly didn't like much of what I did play on the N64 (including Mario and GoldenEye.. just didn't 'get it' for some reason. Zelda was still great obviously)

All the nostalgia is kicking in now! I've decided to hang onto my N64 for a while longer. What a console. Zelda was just, impossible!

Argh... what a tough question! For me... SNES or GameCube.

SNES? The pinnacle of 2D. Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart... simply fabulous :D

GameCube? Metroid Prime. My all-time favourite game... plus plenty of others. Resident Evil 4, F-Zero GX, the ability to play any of the Zelda series on one console...

(still love the NES, N64 and Game Boy series too... argh, what a tough decision!)

SNES tbh lads. Every few months or so I dig it out of its aul box and give Super Mario World a play, maybe even complete it if the mood takes me.

It was my first proper console that I appreciated. It gave me great enjoyment back in the day.

    Great stuff altogether.

Ye Ye, If the N64 had a good beat em up and and a good serious driving game like the playstaion had with tekken and gran turismo. It could have challenged the playstation. Altough I think it done pretty well, oads of people I knew had an n64

I remember the times where I'd have about 5 friends over and we'd stay up all night playing the N64. We played Goldeneye so much that I swear I saw crosshairs wherever I looked the next day! A Nintendo's more than just a console though isn't it? Brings back good memories.

Gotta be the SNES. I had a Megadrive but my best friend had a SNES and I adored it. Lots of great games, great technology, I loved the joypad, and above all just an endless line of classic games.

Then NES I think, I loved it at the time. Put my commodore to shame. I still load up the odd NES game for a blast on my PSP now and they've aged so well.

After that it's Gamecube, brilliant console, some brilliant games, for me it's always been about the multiplayer, Monkey Ball, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros. The graphics and loadtimes of the gamecube deserve a mention. They joypad is nice too and there's always something fun to play.

Gameboy, GBA have been great too. So much gameplay with so little hardware. And I have to admit to being a fan of the Pokemon games. Although I bought a gamegear back in the day. What was I thinking!

The most disappointing consoles were N64 and (so far) DS. When I envied my SNES owning friends while I had a Megadrive, I can't say the same about my Playstation! I found the joypad horrible to try and use, and never got into any of the games other than Mario Party(which incidentally has aged quite well, I played MP6 followed by MP1 the other night and you could barely tell the difference). Goldeneye and Perfect Dark I hated. And still do, I play them with friends occasionally and it's painful. Zelda and Mario 64 are games I only got to try in the last year on Gamecube bonus disc/DS respectively and they did nothing for me whatsoever.

I think all Nintendo consoles have a special place in my heart ... but mainly SNES and N64! I was too young for the NES, by the time i could play my brother had gotten a SNES!
And the N64 was my first console that i owned... not my brother, me!
And the Gamecube ... i guess i am too spoilt to appreciate anything as much as i did when i was younger! But i can remember playing Mario for 4 days straight to complete with my brother and friend! That was soo great!

    Damn you all!!

Making me want a N64 and buying one of ebay. (atleast i have goldeneye & Zelda: OOT now)

The NES is a brilliant console with great games. I still play Megaman today (finally arrived from dvdboxoffice).

I've been staring at my copy of megaman anniversary collection for over a month now. Stupid brother hasn't finished Resi 4 yet and has my freeloader. I'm dying for a game of megaman 2.

Im no expert but the SNES is my personal favourite, probably because i havent the patience for the newer ones. Got rid of my SNES years ago, had to get another one last year. Love the music, sound effects and graphics. Need some more games tho. If anyone is looking to unload some???

N64 for me... Ocarina of Time was the kicker here... best... game... ever...

Goldeneye too... pity the graphics have aged so much but the gameplay is still top notch...

Mario64 and Lylat Wars were both excellent too as was Mystical Ninja...

There was another game I had ages ago but sold which I can't remember the name of... it's some Japanese style game where you could grab onto floating balls and shake them and bounce around...
    Anyone remember it?

Mischief Makers. Another classic from the godlike Treasure.

for me its N64 / nintendo 64 It's is Nintendo's third home video game console. The N64 was released with launch games Super Mario 64. Released in June 1996 in Japan, September 1996 in North America, March 1997 in Europe and Australia, September 1997 in France and December 1997 in Brazil. especially for the legend of zelda ocarina of time. 64 bit console more powerful then sony playstation 1 and sega saturn because both were 32 bit consoles.

the 1st machine to have RAM know as RIMM
(Rambus in-line memory module) / RDRAM.

Rambus's RDRAM saw use in three video game consoles, beginning in 1996 with the Nintendo 64. The Nintendo console utilized 4 MB RDRAM running with a 500 MHz clock on a 9-bit bus, providing 500 MB/s bandwidth. RDRAM allowed N64 to be equipped with a large amount of memory bandwidth while maintaining a lower cost due to design simplicity. RDRAM's narrow bus allows circuit board designers to use simpler design techniques to minimize cost. The memory, however, was disliked for its high random access latencies. In the N64, the RDRAM modules are cooled by a passive heatspreader assembly.
