STT bankroll requirements

    Heya Folks,

Just a quick question, how many STT entry fees should I have for a bankroll, I was thinking 25, is that too small, should I be more like 50? or even greater?

On another note, I really enjoy STTs, I cant really count on my time being my own for an extended amount of time, so that kinda rules out MTT's. I get the feeling that some people dont like PPP, any particular reason why? I think its ok, then again, its the only online poker site i've used. where else should I try?

    Thanks in advance

    -Roy

As with all games if you are not a winning player at the level you choose to play then no amount will be enough. You won't know this until you've played 100+ at any level unless you're losing badly in which case drop a level or 2 as soon as you realise.

So how many buy-ins do you need? Are you happy to drop back a level if you go through a bad patch? If so 20 buy-ins is probably enough provided you drop back when you're down to 10 buy-ins for example. If you're not prepared to drop back then 50 might be a more reasonable number.

Some people think that 10 x buy-ins is enough. Personally I'd say 20 or more for comfort. It probably takes longer than you might think to know if you are a consistant winner at a certain level of STTs.

There has been claims that there's something dodgy about PPP and the Tribeca network, especially regarding the 'VC river special'. Nobody has ever shown any proof so they are ritually abused and cast out.

You should do a search of the poker forum for discussions on the merits of other poker sites. Pokerstars, Party Poker, VC/PPP, and other are all played by people on the boards.

    Thanks folks,

I only play the 1$ NL games and regularly win or finish in the money in these, so i'm not a big player! have about 30 STT entries now, and will wait until I get 25 buyins for the 2$ game before I start playing there.

I'm happy enough with PPP, so i'll continue to hang around there.

I think i'm probably way too cautious in my play style, any tips on how to loosen up, or should I just grow a pair? :-)

    Thanks again

If your aim is to never go broke 30 is fine. When you progress to the higher buy ins I would suggest making it 40 as the variance can be higher.

Caution is good in the lower buy ins. Don't looosen up.

Also if the money is easily replaced (as in you can throw another x amount in if you go broke) then you'll need less buy-ins but don't be surprised if you have to make another deposit.

I've been working off this formula (so to speak) since the start of the summer and it's worked out perfectly. So well in fact that it paid for a nice hollier in New York for the past two weeks. But the key is dropping down when you have ten buy-ins. It only happened me once at the beginning but it saved me a fortune!!
