just wondering if the following spec will play doom 3, half life 2, far cry, battlefield 2 and such on full spec with a good frame rate?

Samsung DVD recorder TS-H552U Black OEM,
Norman IC, 1 year license Virus Control,
    PC box,
    SoftThinks Installation/Recovery,
    Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, nForce4 SLI, Socket -939,S-ATA,Dual-GbLAN,Firewire,PCI-Ex16,
    Logitech Media Keyboard Elite,
    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz Socket 939,
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB SATA2,
    Logitech MX510 Optical Mouse,
    Cooler Master Cavalier 3 Black,
CNET Modem 56k V90/92 Internal PCI,
    Fortron/Source Powersupply ATX 400W rev2,
    Zalman CNPS7700-AICu CPU-Cooler,
    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack,
Creative SB Audigy 2 Value, Bulk,
    Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2,
    XFX GeForce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3,
Sony Floppy Drive, 3,5" 1,44MB Black,
Logitech X-530 5.1 5 satellites and subwoofer 70 watt RMS.

also does anyone know a way of validating half life without going through steam, any cracks like that would be helpfull.

Well, almost. Doom 3's graphics at the best setting are unleashed at 512mb compressed, while you have a sweet graphics card, there isn't really a commerically available card option yet for Doom 3's graphics that isn't horrendous money. You'll get Half Life - 2 and Battlefield 2 running on top spec on the machine, I wouldn't worry too much anyway, they're class (esp HL2) in comparison to Doom 3 (I own all of em) which is, simply, not fun to play.

Far cry. Simply, imo, the best game ever. Amazing graphics.

My advice is to get a single 1gig stick of ram now leaving you with the option to upgrade to 2gigs later by adding an extra stick.

Windows Vista is a memory hog (so if you were ever to upgrade windows you will need more ram) and newer games are going to need more than a gig. In 6 months time, a single stick upgrade to 2gigs will be a much better option.

On a related topic here, I remember a game from a few years ago, called Hostile Waters that I'm dying to get a hold of. I upgraded february just gone, but have been so far unable to find it.

Mmm, are you free next weekend?

See I need to marry you, or have my children. The order of those is up to you :)

Hah, your in exactly the same position as myself. I havent had a decent PC in years so when I built my PC at the moment the first thing I did was start hoarding all the games I never got to play...and ironically enough Hostile Waters was the last game I bought for my 'ol Gateway! :D
