    Myself and Jp are literally on the verge of buying 2 24-port GigE switches to provide a chunky backbone between switches, provide people with (some) GigE ports and replace the FORE 100Meg switches.

    It's gonna cost a bit over a grand, probably more by the time we upgrade the servers to GigE.

    Just as a matter of interest, how many people have GigE nics?

    The speed at which you download those driver and OS updates from the servers is more dependent on the disk subsystem speed and the number of concurrent users downloading from it.
    We won't be upgrading the switching gear for a long long time. Cabling, infrastructure and servers are the next step.
