    Heading there for a stag weekend, has anyone got any recommendations on where to go, what to do for a bunch of 20-30 yr old fellas?

    Was there a few weeks ago. It was hot as hell, I should warn you, though I think they were having a record breaking heatwave.

    I would stay away from anywhere right along the river or the canal. It seemed to like all the seedy, scumbag areas were all along there.

    On the same topic, I would NOT recommend the Danube river cruises in Vienna. The Danube only flows along the edge of the city, so you are basically looking at flyovers, oil terminals, canal locks, and the backs of factories. Any photos you see showing the Danube lined with castles and cathedrals are photos of Budapest.

    We stayed mainly in the area around Schwedenplatz which seemed nice. One really cool bar / restaurant we were in was Zwolf Apostellen Keller, in the basement of an old Monastery. There was a nightclub called the Bermuda Triangle right there too which was pretty cool.

    We were in another area called Pilgramstrasse that seemed to have a lot of hippie, studenty-type bars, but we didn't stay there long - we were only shopping there.

    I don't know if a group of lads would be into going to see the opera / classical music etc. but we went to see one of the orchestras in the Natural History museum and paid only 5 Euro each for standing room only seats. We basically sat on the steps and had a better view of the concert than the dudes who had paid 40 to 60 Euros for a chair five feet in front of us. We only stayed 45 minutes (until the interval) and headed for the pub after that. If you are in the main square (Stefansplatz I think) then all these dudes dressed as Mozart will be trying to sell you tickets to these things.

    We went to the big ferris wheel (the Riesenrad I think?), which was cool as it gives you a great view of the city. They are doing huge road and railway construction in that area at the moment though, so it is a pain in the ass to get there. Unless you really like theme parks, or have loads of time, I honestly wouldn't bother.

    We didn't go to UNO city (the big United Nations Complex) as you need to have your passport on you to get in there. I have heard there is not much to see there, though.

    In terms of the obligatory booby-bars etc. for a stag weekend, it was all married couples on my trip, so I can't help you there. I am sure some dirty fecker of a taxi driver will steer you right though.

    Hope this helps.

    Best club in Vienna is called Nacht Sicht as far as I remember - I'll do a dig around and confirm the travel details (probably 10 or 15 mins out of the centre, very close to the bahnhof / station).

    <edit>

    Actually called NachtWerk (www.nachtwerk.at). It's just the far side of the Danube from the main bulk of the city, on the same train line that goes past their trade centre (or world centre or whatever it is).
