Just bought one of these to supplement my new amp, and I have to say I'm impressed. I was worrying about horrible distortion tones and digital artifacting and so far everything is ok. Some of the presets are crazy and useless but you can customise them anyway. It takes time to get used to all the different options but I've found some great delays and reverbs and I'm now working on recreating tones for some songs. I have "Like a Stone" down by Audioslave and I'm gonna try some Pink Floyd (Run like Hell) stuff soon.

I've heard about the gap in sound when you change patches but so far I've not noticed anything. It's instant. Maybe some of the guys using it were changing between soft Fender Twin tremolo sounds to the High Gain 5150 distortion or something crazy, definatly a jump in levels there but no gaps. That little CTL pedal is dead handy, can assign it to do anything like a bypass/tuner, switch off different effects, delay tap tempo, all sorts of crap!

The only thing bugging me is how to turn everything off and just hear the normal amp tone. Always some compressor or noise gate setting left on grrr.

I don't like you. Are you using the 4 cable method? There is a way to bypass everything afaik but I dunno what it is. Something to do with the expression pedal I think.

Set it to manual Mode if you want to turn everything off..

I have the GT-6 But I presume it is the same with the GT-8.
When in Manual Mode the pedals do what they say above them for example
Press the Preamp Pedal this will turn on the preamp etc..

When not in Manual Mode the Switches 1234 will change Patches 1234 depending on what bank you have selected.

Takes a while to get used to it.

Definitely use the 4 - Cable Method the differnce is huge when using it through an amp.

    4 Cable Method

Also Check out some of the patches up there.

There is a really good application for the PC called GT-Manager which you can send patches to the GT using a standard Midi Cable.

    Best of luck with it.

is it one of the ones with the silver plugs and the instrument end one has a button so ya can unplug without popping... those cables are pretty handy... and if you save your packet, along with your daddario strings packets you can collect player points and send away for a mug... lol
