    I know little about laptops, just want it cheap and with a dvd writer for a friend. This seems cheap and I would prefer to get a NEC than a Dell. Are there any other EU stores with deals at the moment. I do not need a good processor, and would favour quality over a higher speced unit that will pack in after 2-3 years.

    Check out Acer laptops. Just bought one good spec and a great price. Order from there website in the UK. Were voted best laptop for price by the sunday business post recently i believe.You can also choose to have an intel machine or a AMD processer.

    Don't know if you're still looking but I saw 2 Iqon notebooks in Tesco in Clearwater (Finglas) for €699 this evening. Celeron processor :mad: , 256k and 40 gig HD + dvd writer. Just above/behind the customer service desk on the right hand side as you go in. I've no idea what they're like but that's the cheapest I've seen especially for one with a dvd writer.
