can ur budget get anything better then a celeron?
    -> http://www.jes-computer.de/index.php?cat=178_106
what type of ram do u have from ur old computer?
    also ur mobo http://www.jes-computer.de/product_info.php?pID=14165&language=enp says
    "• RAM Typ : PC2700 PC2100 PC3200"
not sure if that memory u r looking at will work
but it does say "optimised for Intel 865/875 chipset" and that mobo uses a intel 865G

The world of PC parts moves fast so yes , that list can be upgraded a lot , have a look at this link from Komplett to give yourself an idea of what is available now for the money , the Celeron can certainly be upgraded to a full P4 chip and a motherboard incorporating PCI express and SATA II and all the rest of the new features introduced since then.

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=311986&cks=PRL

The processor and the motherboard in this kit is a better spec but the graphics card is not , you may want to chop and change here to suit yourself but you get the general idea.

As this is your first PC a kit like this is not a bad idea as all the parts are guaranteed to work together,

As regards the ram question , your existing 1GB of ram would have to match the ram for your new motherboard, unless you have a PC which is less than a year old then this is not likely , and its probably best to forget about it. Even if it is DDR2 ram ( which is the most common these days ) its not a good idea to mix ram speeds.

The case included with the kit is a basic enough case and is not the super quiet type , if you want to use the pc as home entertainment job then you should look at HTPC cases but these are a lot more expensive.

    Anyway hope this helps,

It's the mid-range one on Col_loki specs thread on the modding board

Yea prob shouldnt listen to that too much as it is pretty old since i havent been around. €700 budget....

    Abit AN8, nForce4, Socket-939, ATX SATA,GbLAN,Firewire,DDR,Sound,PCIEx16
    307144 - €115

    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz Socket 939, 512KB, BOXED w/fan
    307201 - €163

    Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ
    308744 - €92

    Gainward GeForce 6600GT 128MB 2ns GDDR3 PCI-Express,"Ultra/1960PCX Tv out, DVI
    307194 - €175

    TwinMOS Speed Premium PC3200 512MB CL2.5 Winbond BH-5, 32*8/16chip, 400mhz, 184-P
    309097 - 2x512mb - €130

Antec Sonata Miditower, Black w/380W PSU
    305069 - €119

    Total: 794.9

The AMD64 Socket 939 is the most upgradable socket out at the min, after changing from an Intel S478 to the S939 AMD64 i think the difference is amazing. Im extremely happy with my new system, it really fly's. It also has "cool n quiet" which can adjust the speed of the fans according to temp's (it also adjusts CPU speed down when you dont need it).... thats great for a very quiet system.

Check to see what speed memory you have and get back to us.

I included a Sonata case which is built to be very quiet and has an excellent power supply. If you already have a case have a look at a 350/400w Fortron (on komplett under case heading).... which will make things cheaper.

I included Ram aswell, this stuff is great if you choose to overclock in the future.
Thats just a rough spec, and is MUCH better that the older one i listed. I would definetly advise going AMD64 and the newer socket.

Hey, Thanks for that list. I'm just wondering what site did you found those on because jes.de doesen't have them? I'll find out that ram speed when I go home and I'll post it up.

edit: They have them all for the same prices on komplett so i'm guessing you used that. With shipping and everything that comes to €850 and I flat out don't have it... I don't know whether to wait or just compromise
