    But I want to desgin my own stuff and transfer it onto my website from scratch with no templates just my own design.

    Can anyone guide me through the steps of transferring images and text to a website, i have leech ftp and am not sure if this is what i should be using to transfer them as i do not know anything about transferring or converting files to be suitable.

    so maybe you could help !!!

    Any FTP client will do the trick for actually transferring the files. Some webhosts (particularly the free ones) use web-based forms for uploading files instead of FTP. If you're talking about actually making the pages yourself, either learn HTML or use a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) tool such as Dreamweaver or Frontpage to create the layout.

    Somewhere like HTML Goodies will teach you the HTML you need to create your own pages from scratch. Whatever host you use will more than likely have an FAQ on transferring the files and images up.

    OK if you have dreamweaver 2004 or ealier versions you dont need an additional ftp programme - set up a site using the "wizard" and enter your ftp details then construct your pages - and away u go.

    I dont want to be smart but if you have dreamweaver there are excellent help tutorial on getting started - have a look at these first and get back with any questions

    What do you mean by change files to a different type ? What type of files do you want to change, and what do you want to change them to ?

    as i said in your other thread.... RTFM!

    Dreamweaver comes with tutorials. Follow them and you'll learn how to do what you require.

    Also google for beginners guide to html for info on how webpages are constructed.

    As Turk says "Learn by doing."

    :-)

    Best School There is.

    Or another way - visit web pages/file/save page as/open in notepad.
    Minimise notepad/open the html document you saved/point at an image (If there displaying - they should)/select properties.

    This will give you details of the image -something like an_imge.jpg

    maximise your notepad with the html text (The one you minimised previously)/edit/find and put the image properties in the 'Find Search Option in Notepad'/ notepad will then find that name (Or should) - then look at how it's constructed - you should see something like this;
    <img src="an_image.jpg" alt="An Image is displayed here"
    width="100" height="100" />

    (Thats in xhtml btw)

    Thats one of the ways I learnt - got web pages and broke em - them fixed em. took me about 2 months to get the basics of it and three years to learn it reasonably well (To xhtml/css W3C standards).

    As others have said though Google is our friend :)

    btw check out 'Zen Garden' for css design ;)

    www.nvu.com, open source wysiwyg html editor, very much like frontpage in its capabilities, obviously can't touch dreamweaver but it's a good place to start, and it's free
