    Can anyone help me ?
My mates laptop got surged a few weeks back, he thought all along that when it would not charge that it was the charger that was broken.
But when he tried my charger nothing was happening.

AFAIK Dell will not repair this as all computer manufacturers recommend that you buy a surge protector.

It has been recommended to me that we replace the motherboard on the laptop because that's what gets fried in a power surge.

any one got any advice for me on how to repair it or where to get the parts.

    cheers

It would be probably cheaper to get a new one, as the whole board is most likely dead, new motherboard, processor, ram possibly screen.

OK, to damage a laptop with a power surge, the surge has to go
    - Through the Step-down AC-AC transformer
    - Through the Bridge rectifier
    - Blow the voltage regulator
    - Toast the battery
    - Blow the fuse

And still have enough juice left to damage some components.
Did he try to recharge it with a welding rod ?
