    holy smoke!
Eleven men remain in police custody today following a bizarre blackmail plot against the milliomaire owner of Queens Park Rangers FC.

Gianni Paladini, 59, claims a gang of men bundled him into an office as he walked to the directors' box at the team's Loftus Road stadium in west London just before kick-off on Saturday.

He says the five-strong mob kicked and beat him then put a gun to his head and forced him to sign a letter of resignation.

Armed police swooped on the ground and arrests were made both inside and outside the ground, but no firearms were found.

Fans were unaware of the drama and the game went ahead, QPR beating Sheffield United 2-1.

Mr Paladini, an Italian-born agent, is the leader of a Monaco-based consortium who invested £1.7m in the club last year to pay off huge debts. But there has been growing resentment among ordinary supporters at the way the club is being run.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We have launched an investigation following an incident at QPR football ground.

"At approx 3pm on Saturday, police were called to reports that a number of men had threatened a man - that is threats to kill - and had then left.

"Officers were deployed and 11 men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit blackmail.

"We await confirmation but it would appear arrests were made immediately outside the ground and in Uxbridge Road.

"Then, based on information received, armed officers were deployed inside the ground and further arrests were made at approx 4.10pm.

"Those arrested are in custody at west London police stations. There were no injuries to any person.

"No weapons were seized and no shots fired."

    Crazy.

    Mike.

Why couldn't somebody have done that to Peter Ridsdale a couple of years ago?

This was on Sky Sports news this morning but they didn't make a big deal out of it. Seems strange alright and you have to wonder is there something else going on ?

That's madness. They did well last season in their first year back in the Championship, and have started this season well too. I wonder was it actually run of the mill fans or people closer to the club that knew something else that is going on.
