A corner back, first and foremost, has to be able to stick tight to their man. Speed can be an important aspect of this. They have to be ready for tussles and be able to hassle a player until he is rushed into a shot or fouls for overcarrying. Blocking is important.

A wing back has to be able to break forward and support midfield and the half forwards, speed is important again, as can be carrying the ball forward. Winning the breaking ball to support midfield can also be useful against teams whose goalies have a strong kick out.

Overall though, its impossible to say what makes a good player. Different players have different attributes in their own positions.
