Shouldn't take you too long to get your answer..

    You have a choice between:
    AON bike care: http://www.aon.com/ie/en/indiv/bikecare.jsp
    Carole Nash: http://www.carolenash.com/eire.asp

and that's it... So give 'em both a call. No such thing as cheap, I'm afraid...

There's a lot of info and discussion about Irish PTW insurance providers in this thread here.

I don't think CN will insure mopeds at all. They generally insure classics, bikes over 250CC and people over 23.
So AON it is. If you're young, prepare to be boned by them.

    Hibernian will insure you too.
Our moped is still insured under my name with my brother as named driver (to keep our no claims bonus), I think its down to less than €400 now.

Hibernian got out of the bike insurance business a while ago. They won't take any new customers, and once your current policy with them expires, they won't renew it.

Hibernian would have renewed your premium if it was due for renewal before August. But alas now they are gone...

Even AXA(AON) are threatening to withdraw from the market now..

Got a quote myself off CN... €1150 on a moped.. 24yrs old, full clean B n C licence for 4yrs n a policy on my car. tis sick, i wish quinn direct did motorbike insurance cause they've always givin me great quotes...

The B and C experience counts for jack **** when getting bike insurance. Its the same deal when switching from bike to car (like i did, 5 years no claims on the bike, worth zero when I switched to 4 wheels).

Unfortunately we are getting close to a monopoly on moped insurance.

AON are the only company as far as I know actually quoting.....Carole Nash are brokers.

In fairness to CN, they will tell you up front that they cant complete on moped quotes. I tried out of curiosity last year, and nearly died when I heard the figures.

I dread to think what my quote will be next year when my current Hibernian policy expires.......

I am currently paying around €180 for 3rd party only..... it was €350-400 for fully comp., which is only a euro a day I suppose. (Granted Im 35, full B and 2 years NCB)

Remember also that for mopeds (under 50cc) a full B licence is classed as a full bike licence......

its only when you step up to a 125cc that you need an A licence and move into Group 2 insurance
