Recently the gas pilot light in my Bord Gais boiler turns off after a minute or so. Seems like system is lacking water?
Any ideas on how to fix?

Call a Service Tech to this, Gas boilers are not things to be messed with.
The pilot loght should remain on regardless of water afaik. But play it safe here man.

Could be the fan, if this stops working, then the system will shut down on mine.

    Hi,

Gas boilers have a lot of built in safety settings, if the pilot light is going out within a minute of starting it suggests to me you need to get the boiler serviced.

The amount of water in the system should not effect the pilot light, if the water pressure is low your boiler will heat up very fast and switch off until the temp goes down again and the boiler re-starts.

The problem could be anything from a simple thermcouple to a blocked flue, they are not for the DIY or even semi experienced to work on, call in the professionals.

ohh not good. pipes prob dirty. strongly recommend ringing bord gas to get a technician to do maintenance on it. i think they charge about 90 quid. there should be a number on the side of the boiler or let your fingers do the walking.

happened me too. and i get it serviced once a year.

    Hi Idunno
I have to agree with RooferPete on this one(afraid to do otherwise :) )
Probably defective thermocoupler, Not detecting heat from pilot flame, "assumes" flame has blown out and cuts off the gas completely to stop gas build up and BANG.
I'd have a bash at almost anything...the one exception is this. I am keenly aware of the dangers assosiated with methane gas (work related hazzard) so get in the pros on this one

Just to back that up, the same happened me. Turns out the pump was broke and becaus e the water had nowhere to go, it cut out.

Which reminds me, I seriously need to get my boiler serviced. Is that €90 offer from Bord Gais the best one to go with?
