Sky +

I recently had Sky + installed, and while I was aware that Channel 4 and ITV did not come on the Irish Sky EPG, somebody had told me that you could possibly tune in some of the ITV regions manually, plus the BBC stations that Sky for some strange reason don't give you in Ireland. I printed off all of the frequencies from the Internet on Wednesday night, and today I tried manually tuning in everything from BBC3 & 4, CBEEBIES, ITV regions, BBC radio 1-5, yet the only channel that I could pickup was Radio 4. For everything I tried with the exception of Radio 4, I kept getting 'no signal received', am I doing something wrong, or can somebody tell me what I need to do, for if all of these channels were blocked, I'm sure I would have got an error message telling me so, rather than no signal. Any assistance would be much appreciated, and also does anybody know if its possible to get ITV or Channel 4 any other way?

    Cheers

You should be able to get any of the BBC channels, but you won't get ITV or Channel 4 as they're both encrypted.

There's a list of frequencies here:

Thanks for that, although I managed to get all of the channels working today, as I had only been putting in the frequency, and not changing the other settings as well. Is it true that if you get a UK FTA card, that you can pick up ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc, and do you just swap the card in
and out of your Sky Box, depending on what you want to watch, i.e. if you wish to watch RTE, or any of your subscription channels, you need your ROI card, and if you want to watch ITV or Channel 4, you use your UK FTA card?

    Cheers

Yes a FTV card will get you ITV1/2 C4 and C5. If you get one, make sure your phoneline is disconnected from your Sky+ when you use it or you risk it being turned off.

slightly off thread but can anyone direct me to a reliable source for the UK FTV card ,

Got any relatives or friends in Britain or Northern Ireland? Otherwise bend over and brace yourself. Most websites selling them are doing so at a ridiculous price.
Try ebay for more reasonable prices but remember that all it takes is a phonecall from the original owner of the card to sky and it gets turned off, as with all online auctions only buy from someone reputable.

Does anybody out there know the cheapest place to buy a UK FTA card, and does it matter if you have Sky or Sky+, will the UK FTA card work in either. Also somebody suggested that I disconnect the phone line from my sky box when using the UK card, do Sky actually notice or care if you disconnect your phone line from the box?

Your FTV card should work in SKY+ box but you won't be able to record any channels with it. Also you've probably already discovered that Sky+ does not permit you to record off any manually tuned channels!

Final question on this I hope? If you get a Sky Card from Northern Ireland, as well as picking up Channel 4, Channel 5 and the ITV regions, will you be able to pick up the Irish channels as well, since Sky customers in the North get the Irish channels as well (aren't they lucky), has anybody tried this??

AFAIK i think you would need a subscription on your NI sky card
