Learning how to programme in C++ or Java

I haven't a clue how to programme. Is there anyone out there that can suggest a book thats very helpful when it comes to starting out to learn programming.

Both of these are very good. I learned Java largely off the Sun Microsystems one, and still use it as a reference.

I'm unfamiliar with Eckels' Java book, but I'd imagine it's good.
