    Hi all,

I’m interested in buying a printer and was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction!

I have a laptop, and desk space at home is at a minimum, so I really don’t a want any big clunky machine. I have seen some combination printer/scanner/photocopiers – generally speaking, are these a good investment? I wouldn’t necessarily be photocopying a whole lot, but think it might be handy to have.

My main priority is to buy a printer that is easy to maintain. I wouldn’t be printing many photos – it is mainly for printing off tedious work documents/schedules etc! I don’t mind paying a little extra up front if the cartridges are cheaper to replace in the long run.

    Many thanks

Look i really dont have long but i bought the epson r200 (photo printer) from dabs.co.uk, it came to 100e, i then purchased my ink from mediawrite.ie (ridisc ink) for 8 euro, with this ink and printer i printed out a 350 page book, mainly black ink for the text, i printed out 10 A4 size photos and a few smaller photos and printed some discs, the black ink is nearly gone but i think thats great value. I think the printer is speedy enough, quality good and ink cheap and printer cheap, i think its the best investment iv ever made, i was recomended by boards.ie users on this printer, do a search!

I would suggest a personal laser. Fast and low running costs.

I have a Laserjet 1200, which is a few years old. The genuine high capacity toner costs about €80 and does about 5,000 pages. And it eats any inkjet I have ever seen for speed.*

*except for large PDF files, I think the addition of a USB2 interface on new printers should solve this though.
