Using older AI lenses with Nikon D50/D70

    I had one more question about the D50 - just remembered it!

    I know that the D70/D50 can take the older AI manual lenses but that certain camera features will not work.

    I'm wondering if the in-camera light meter will operate okay with these lenses? (i.e. I can set aperture on the lens, shutter speed on camera, but will it be clever enough to give me a correct exposure reading?)

    There's a whole section in the back of the manual with a table showing what features will and won't work with various vintages of Nikkor lenses.

    Do you have the camera yet, or are you planning on getting one? If the latter I can try and post up the page(s) in question if you want?

    I'm planning on getting one (the D50) - I'm just going on what I've read on the review sites, which only have limited spec sheets.

    The reason for my strange questions is that I want to use it for wide-field astrophotography, as well as the usual daytime stuff. And I want to be able to use some of my older lenses on it as well (okay, I know they'll be slightly longer, but I still like using the prime lenses)

    It's just a bit more daunting than usual spending that much online sight-unseen. Hence my detailed research... Okay, it's not research anymore, it's an obsession.... time to click that 'Buy Now' button... !! :rolleyes:

    Good idea re: the manual. I found the pdf online;

    http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/noprint/D50_en_noprint.pdf

    And on page 106 is the lens compatibility chart.
