    I am realy upset.
I don't know is it with muyself, the router or BT.
It has been almost a month since I am having problems with using P2P programs like edonkey 2000 pro or even Azureus. I keep getting a message that I am behind a firewall (edonkey) or that I have a NAT error (Azureus). I am not such an idiot and I read a lot trying to rectify the problem. I could ring the BT CS but I know they will say that everythinbg is OK from their side. I have a Zyxel Presitige 623R-T1 router. In the NAT page I have configured the ports used by edonkey and Azureus. I have entered my IP (192.168.1.33) as that is what I get when I do a ipconfig (please see below)and again keep getting messages that I am behind a firewall. I have even formatted my HD in the hope that this issue may resolve. Currently, I have no firewall installed. I had Zone alarm before i formatted the disk but got rid of it. In the Firewall settings of Win XP, I have turned off the firewall. The settings on the wizard page are the same as in my router. Nevertheless, I get speeds of max 10 kB/s even when I give unlimited upload speeds. I have edonkey and azureus on for the past 2 days without a restart in hope that things will; get going. I am trying to get a cuban music (nothing illegal) album downloaded and even though there are hoiundreds of sources, the download will not start. Edonkey cannot resolve 4662...
I had no problems in the past when I was a UTV customer (even thgough I used a firewall at the time) and even BT worked fine for about one month. Is there anything obvious that I am missing.
I wanted to post an img of the NAT page but I do not know how to upload an image.
    Slan

Good move, firewalls are totally over-rated.
Why stop there? Open up Word and type the following in the largest, boldest font you can find: "PLEASE ROB ME OR AT LEAST TRASH MY HOUSE" and print it. Then open all the doors to your house/apartment.......no wait, REMOVE the doors and attach the Word printout somewhere highly visible.

Seriously, think about it mate. In just one post you have told people what p2p you are using, what file you are downloading/uploading and the fact that you have no firewall. I've a good mind to install edonkey just to teach you a lesson.

Well, if you are using a dsl connection, and are giving unlimited upload speed then that will adversely affect your download speed. I presume you either have max upload 15kbps or 30kbps (125kbit / 256kbit ). For 15kbps, you should limit upload to about 3-5 kbps, and for 30kbps about 10-12 kbps.

Well im the only Spook Edonky around here ;p

Anyway just a thought, perhaps youre BB provider is clocking ports that these programs use. Im having problems uploading on peer to peer but I think thats a fire wall issue for me!

I do not give unlimited upload all the time. It is usualy limited to 10 kb/*s. I just wanted to make my point that I tried removing the tick from the unlimited... just to see will it make a change!

As far as I know (or at least I think so) BT do not clock ports used by the P2P applications. This was said by someone on this topic. Mind you, it couild be that they changed their mind in the meantime. I will give them a ring tomorrow and will see.

    Hold your horses there mate.
Having a P2P program installed is not illegal.
Removing a firewall is an experiment to try and see will that solve the problem.
I do not run a corporation. I am an average home user so I do not know who would attempt to do what you are suggesting!
What kind of lesson did you have in mind?

    http://www.preinheimer.com/cgi-bin/connectiontest/connectiontest2.cgi

A connection tester for edonkey - it will tell you if it can see edonkey running on the port you enter. If you are running the newest version try turning off UPnP support as it gave me some issues. Also as another poster said you really should limit your upload somewhat or your pipe will be swamped and this will really affect your download speeds.

regedit, i am also a BT customer, and i came across a very similar problem to yours setting up shareaza (within which edonkey is one of the networks it connects to). i had major problems too with the initial setup, i.e. it simply wouldnt connect to any networks for me. i eventually resolved it by setting up port forwarding on my router, something i learned how to do from reading the shareaza forums, there was some very good info on it.

as for what kingpin said - he gave you some very good advice there, you seem to niavely think that cos you are a home user rather than a corporation no-one would bother with hacking you. once you have an always on connection you are a mega-target and should be appropriately paranoid. just letting you know...

I have tried the link you gave me in the past but it tells me I am behind a firewall. As for Universal Plug and Play, I just checked it and it is switched off by default. As I said before, I do throttler my upload speed. If I increase it even to 15, I find it hard to browse any page.

Heres a couple of guides to check that you got the port forwarding set up correctly

    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/ZyXEL/Prestige623R-T1/Azureus.htm

    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/ZyXEL/Prestige623R-T1/eDonkey.htm

Is there any way you can take the router out of your setup just to test if it works without the router?

To be honest, I do not know how that isd done.
If anyone provides a few hints, I will gladly do that.
I have finaly managed to send an attachment. It contains the details froim the NAT page. You might notice that the second number is somewhat different but that is what eDonkey gives me by default.

Its possible the problem is that you are forwarding all ports to 192.168.1.1 and then trying to forward the ones you want to 192.168.1.33.

try changing all ports to 192.168.1.33 and run the connection tester again.

What I did a short while ago was to reset the router. Then I restarted the PC and I am getting a message that I am not behind a firewall any longer.
I have tried to change the value you just recommended. I will wait for a while to see will that have an additional effect.
    Thanks.

Now, I saw your original post, which you have now edited. You are looking for copyright music. It is illegal.
I was going to report you earlier but gave you the benifit but this has gone on long enough. I can't believe that there are respected members of boards helping him setup eDonkey.

    Reported!!!

Remove the stick from your arse and don't reply to posts if you've nothing helpful to say.

Personally, I stopped using eDonkey years ago due to it's unexplainably slow speeds.

And this is a broadband issue how? It seems to me you have problems working your computer machine.

I'll move it, don't be surprised if it gets locked.

If it's a particluar port that's causing the problem, change the listen port in the advanced settings (Az lets you do this...not sure about eDonkey) anf then change it in your router's firewall/services list.
Rboot the router as well...I get random NAT errors when my LAN has been up for a few days....restarting the router always sorts it.

Gee, you gave me a fright.

I dont know based on what standards would you consider yourself a respectful member of the boards!
With most of us enjoying broadband connection on this day and age, I reckon it is best to avoid the posts that interfeer with your moral and ethical priciples.
Last, if I have offended anyone by posting "inside" this topic, I apologise.

@the moderator:edonkey and other P2P utilities are part of broadband. If you think it is innapropriate for it to be where it is, please move it somewhere else.

try and find DMZ mode on your router, this will open all ports for 1 machine on the network and then get a software firewall which will be far easier to work with than your router
