K after loosing a few hard drives after a dodgy part decided to blow up! i invested in another hard drive to use as a back up.

I'm looking for a piece of software that I can just specify what directories to back up and where to put the back ups and that i can schedule to run every once in a while, like every few nights

any recommendations, was tempted to just to do up a batch job but a GUI would be nice!!

    thanx

SyncBack from http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/ , it does exactly what you want. i have used it and its very good , i use it to back across with my network with no problems.

Well there is 'Backup' built in to the OS, if you are on a PC at least - Accessories > System Tools > Backup. Not that bad a program.

    xcopy works either...

I use Norton Ghost - it does what it says, has scheduled backups, can select which files/ folders you want.

I've done several full & partial restores - no problems - so far!

Another nod here for Windows Backup. It's free and already on your pc. Have a fiddle around with it and see if it meets your needs.

Sorry to jump in to your thread here, but just one little related question.

My computer is badly in need of a clean install.. virus and spyware that are unremovable must go..

If I use one of these programes to back up my music/movies games etc.. if the virus is in those certain folders would it copy across straight into my clean install and start messing everything up again. Further more, would I be able to copy the likes of Valves : Steam with all its games to back up, restore them, and be able to play them with out hassle, or would there be registry issues here?

    Regards,
    -Coz.

If any of the viruses/ spyware are in any files or folders that you back up, then the likely result, when you restore them to your clean install, is that they will continue to affect your system.#

AS regards your second question, I'm to up on steam etc. but it's highly probable that there will be registry issues - backing up/restoring program files does not restore any changes it may have made in your registry, although if you have broadband, you could just download again?
