Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on models\deals available for phones that support OSX Tiger without too much hassle.

Syncing contacts and dialing GPRS without any messing around is a neccacity. Ability to compose SMS would be a bonus, but not a big deal.

Any 3g phones out there with good\easy Mac usage?

Of course google is your friend when looking for these things, but im looking for people's personal experinces\opinions from the good old emerald isle.

    any views appricated ;)

    Well too start go to:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html

This will give you a list of supported devices. I use a SE K700i and it works quite well. Have used it as a modem whilst on the move too but beware the speeds are very poor. Less than dial-up. I have previously used the SE T68i with previous Mac OS versions without hassles.

Best of luck in your search.

On a closely related note, I've noticed 3 have started up their Irish service, and was considering getting myself a 3G phone for connecting my Powerbook to the internet with. However, I can't find any indication of what sort of speed 3's connection runs at or what sort of charges it incurs. As far as I know Vodafone's 3G network runs at 384kbps (unsure of what the costs are, though), but does anyone have any advice on which of these services (and which compatible handsets) would offer good price and compatibility for a Tiger user?

Vodafone's 3G is quite expensive (99 euros pm is the cheapest plan I think) but very fast, almost broadband if you're in the right area, however this only applys to the the card not the bluetooth connection, as bluetooth data speeds are pretty slow...

Although vodafone don't supply mac software for their card, the UK vodafone does, just download it from their website (same card in the uk) and install...

It's a little buggy at times but very good for email and net access on the move, you can also set it up with a VPN to get into the office access...

€99 a month? Yikes, I hear 3 is charging €25 for their cheapest package, but again I've got no idea of data rates or such.

Also, all new Powerbooks and iBooks come with Bluetooth 2.0, which, if I recall correctly, runs at about 2Mbps, which should be quite sufficient for a 3G internet connection. However, this would depend entirely on the phone models also supporting Bluetooth 2, so does anyone know if the ones Vodafone/3 are packaging with their deals are Bluetooth 2 compatible?

Just checked the vodafone site, it's actually only 25 a month + sim rental of 12.50...

    http://www.vodafone.ie/sme/mailonthemove/mcc/whatis/offer.jsp

But this only gets you 20MB of downloads!

I have a blackberry phone from o2 and can connect to my powerbook via bluetooth and to the net also. They have a pretty good deal, 20 euros for unlimited GPRS usage... man it's slow but handy for email, and net access...

€1.45 per megabyte, they've got to be joking me. At 384kbps, that's €22.50 per minute if you're downloading files. I think I'll stick to college WiFi, thankyouverymuchmrvodafone.

    Hey,

Have the Nokia 6680 very handy and native support. Get GPRS/BT and 3G/BT (price is a little bit steep).

iSync & Addressbook synchronises brilliantly and with Sailing Clicker I can do what ever I want with my Powerbook via my phone (even pauses iTunes and tells me a call is coming in, handy as).

One bizarre bug though, if you compose a message with two consequtive (spelling ??) exclaimation marks (!!), the phone crashes... very odd.

Anyway, great business phone, quick and easy to use and top class compatiblity with my mac.

    My two cents...

SE V800 on Vodafone 3G. works fine with iSync, iPhoto and address book. SMS composition works fine too as does file transfer via BT. I've only had problems with this phone on Panther and earlier although the T610 and T630 both worked fine.

Took me a while to get the internet access sorted via blootooth to 3G. I found a site via google that contains the modem script for the Mac to allow it to use the V800 as a modem via bluetooth. Connection speed was very impressive, almost as quick as my 512K BB used to be. You are charged by the KB for data connections, not time. I checked the 3 site but it's selection of phones is very poor and not enough details on their services yet.

Sony also provide a theme manager for the Mac so you can personalise your phone, very cool.
