The latest edition of the phone book in Dublin has been printed and distributed with an error each time the Irish fada appears.
Heh. Wonder what it says instead of the fada. Proberly the alphanumeric version of it, or something:D

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh, who first highlighted the error, said: "People with Irish names will be disappointed that all other languages in the directory appear to be OK but our own native language has been neglected.

"The Government should recall all these directories, have the problem sorted, re-print it and re-distribute it.

"If that is not feasible at the very least they should give a commitment not to ever let this happen again."

One would have to wonder how many other languages are in the fecking thing, and what do the government have to do with a list of numbers printed by a private company on behalf of another private company.

Even if they do have some say, of course its ****ing unfeasible to recall every phonebook and issue new ones, what a knóbhead of an idea ffs.

So French names with acutes appear OK, but not Irish names with fadas (fadaí?).

Presumably the letters with accents that look the exact same as the fada are messed up in the same way.

Unless it was a malicious anti-gaeilge scheme and it actually checked the context of each fada to make sure it wasn't french

french accents go the opposite way to the irish fada, at least sometimes they do, never studied french so I'm not sure whether or not they also use what we call a fada.

There are all sorts of accents and other symbols that languages use, that you can easily get from your keyboard if you know how: ùÿÖÜïèëêçåàäâéüÇôöòìÑñ

Isn't it? Yet so many computer users don't even realise you can get all of those characters direct from the keyboard without use of any software or changing settings or having to go into the Character Map or Symbols etc. It's amazing how many basic things that "experienced" computer users don't know.

Its a conspiracy to kill the Irish language frm everyday life. Only they conspirators were struck a blow when Irish was officialised. So they decided to sabotage the phone book...Bloody atrocious if you ask me. ;)

Afraid I wouldn't have a large vocab of Irish to use. It seems the conspirators have won me over. They introduced teacher methods which are utterly useless a few years ago. The youth will suffer!
