Laptop Freezing... Advice Needed!

    Hi All,

    Hope someone can help.
I've got a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite that came with Win XP HE.

Recently I bought Win XP Pro and installed it on the laptop.

When I installed, the laptops touchpad became inactive. I then installed the correct driver from the Toshiba Restore CD's that came with the latop and the touchpad worked again.
Since I did this though, my laptop has started freezing! There doesnt seem to be a pattern such as the programs I'm accessing etc. It could be after 5 minutes use, or 2 hours.
When it does feeze, the laptop doesnt respond to anything. I have to power it off and on again to get back on.

Now heres the interesting part! To try fix this I've re-installed windows on my C: partition (used for the OS... my D: partition is used for my apps.) but I still get the same problem! Incidentially, the touch pad is actually working even though I havent re-installed the driver.

Anyway, sorry for the long post.
Just wondering if anyone had any advise as to what I should do next.

Worst case scenario is that I have to wipe my whole laptop (both partitions) and set EVERYTHING up again. Obviously I don't want to do this! :(

Any help would be appreciated! :)

ive seen this problem before, for some strange reason some toshiba laptops that have been preloaded with xp home, dont take too well to xp pro, toshiba also will not support xp pro on an originally xp home laptop, so they dont have a fix for this problem. you'll most likely have to go back to xp home unless someone else can suggest a fix.

I've seen and experienced similar myself. Have Toshiba any support forums that you could consult?
Have you any Toshiba apps installed?
