I'm thinking of upgrading to a better amp. I currently have a 15 watt Drive amp which is pretty bad and im thinking of getting something better. What, in your opinion, is the best amp i could get for €200 - 300? I'm on a limited budget. I just want something that will be loud enough to jam with drums and a bass. Also on a seperate note, how big an amp do you need to play live. Assuming that your mic-ing the amp? Help would be much appreciated. Cheers

those Mg100 amps are great and aint too far from your price range. They have decent effects and great sounds and are very loud for what ur looking fo. I mite buy one just for practicing sometime. Very very versatile. There is one going for around 300 in cumiskys in dundalk but always going for cheap on buy and sell. any help?

The MG's are horrible horrible amps and Cumiskey's is a rip off shop.

A second hand tube amp would be in that range. Or get a Tour Reverb from Thomann.

You can play a gig with a 5W amp.

Personally, I'd say a Line6 Spider or something to that effect would be what you're looking at. The Spider certainly leaves the MG in it's dust.

I can't think of many good valve amps that'd go for that little second hand, tbh, but if you can find one it'd be well worth it.

well personally if it were me i would get an Xt live or Vox or somethin. I am using a H&K zenamp for the tone but sure sounds like a floorboard would be the handiest for you and still allow you to use various tones. Them marshalls are very tempramental i admit but they would let him get an idea of different tones. They have very lil character and they arent very unique like my favourite H&K's but was just a thought. I gigged a vortex for a long time and they are ok.....ok

A multieffects board won't let him jam with a drummer though.

ok well.... The vox valvetronix are pretty ok. Might be a bit pricier though. Do you know what kind of tone your looking for? as in classic dist or a bit more modern?

The 50W Valvetronix is €400 afaik. Really impressive.

and not to be a bitch or anythin but if at all possible buy second hand or abroad. I have yet to find a single decently priced irish shop. Blackrock stock some good stuff but are crazy expensive

I think the majority of people on this website shop online for major purchases. I wouldn't buy a thing from Blackrock.

good thing with blackrock is i kno the guys and they cut me good deals but ya gotta kno what ur buyin coz they bloody dont. A friend bought a great les paul wit some weird pickup selector( they were discontinued ) for dirt cheap off them. worth a mint

If you don't know them, they'll try and take you for a ride. An Ibanez RG570 for €850? **** that!

if u walk in and dont bull**** they are ok. now that is ridicilous i agree and i not disputin anythin. They just used to bloody korn and met heads. would drive me nuts too. a friend of mine Declan Cambell got a great TSL off them and coz it had some wear and tear they traded it for a low range marshall

Still, I wouldn't go near them. Online all the way.

how u find it? i am H&K all the way, boogies were too much work in sound check

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not great tbh. Lovely clean sound but that's it. I use it as a loudener for a ME-50. It's all I could afford at the time.

I'm only on my fifth :(

Doc J will no doubt be along to preach about the Roc Pro. Actually, OP, check out FS Music Equipment. There's a Roc Pro amp for sale there. Worth the money apparently.
