Advice needed on job application

    I am in the middle of preparing a job application and the position that I'm applying for requires several years experience in a certain area, which I don't have. All in all, I have one year's professional experience that is not directly related to finance.

    However, I do meet all the other criteria. Do you think I have a chance of being selected for interview (I know this depends on the competition, of course) or am I just wasting my time?

    give it a shot.
    If you word it well, you can try and prove yourself worthy for the position thorugh other experience and skills you have.
    Remember to sell yourself!

    It also depends on what you are up against. You might be the best qualified of all applicants. Give it a go!

    Yup, as both posters above said: word it well and you never know, they might be desperate and you're the best of a bad bunch!

    I was recently trying to hire someone for a finance position - you would not believe how difficult it was. Most people were TOTALLY chancing their arm.

    In the end I had to take someone who was slightly unsuitable (we couldn't wait any longer to fill the role.)

    Bit of advice: say you are studying towards your ACCA exams. Part-time, in the evening.

    Dublin dude, that's a good idea to say i'm studying towards exams, I also thought I could ask the company to pay for me to attend a finance course at night if they're interested in hiring me? What do you think?

    Yup, why not start the ACCA exams? Or at least, intend on starting them.

    Everyone else is going to say they are studying towards ACCA/CIMA, so you may as well too :)

    Also, if you want to do well in finance, it'd be a good idea to ge those exams anyway (otherwise you'll be an "accounts" person, rather than an accountant, for the rest of your life...)
