After getting quite pissed off with the amount of junk mail coming through my door, i was reading through an article on the net, can't remember the url but anywho, therin detailed was a brilliant means of getting revenge on those f***ers who send junk email through our doors every day.

It only works with the mail that comes with a postage paid return envelope, and basically what you do is you take the return envelope, selotape it to a cinder-block or other similar large heavy object likely to cost a fortune to post, and then drop it down to your local post office. The company who sent the mail will be legally obliged to fully cover the cost of sending the item

I hevent tried it yet, but next time i get one of the suckers...

If enough people start doing it then the companies will probably have to stop sending out return envelopes, thus vastly reducing their return rate, :D

    I love it! LOL

Or you could just register with the GPO not to receive any junk mail with your post.

havent heard that slant on it.
I get return envelopes with my CC bill and mobile bill, even though both are setup with DD.
I usually chuck in any marketing promo they send, plus other junk mail I'd get... and send it back to them.

That's a good one too, only the one thing i'd have against it is the fact that those bills will have all your personal details on them, and considering these companies like to send voluminous junk mail, you never know what they might do to retaliate :D

<wolf> 1. Save every Free Credit Card Offer you get, Put it in pile A
<wolf> 2. Save every Free Coupon You get, put that in pile B
<wolf> 3. Now open the credit card mail from pile A and find the Business
    Reply Mail Envelope.
<wolf> 4. Take the coupons from pile B and stuff them in the envelope you hold
    in your hand.
<wolf> 5. Drop the stuffed to the brim envelopes in your mail and walk away
    whistling.
<wolf> I have now received two phone calls from the credit card companies
telling me that they received a stuffed envelope with coupons rather
then my application. They informed me that it they are not pleased that
they footed the bill for the crap I sent them. I reply with "It says
Business Reply Mail" I'm suggesting coupons to you to ensure that your
business is more successful. They promptly hang up on me.
<wolf> Now, I did this for about a month before it got boring, so I got an
added idea! I added exactly 33 cents worth of pennies to the envelope
so they paid EXTRA due to the weight. I got a call informing me about
the money, I said it was a mistake and I demanded my change back. After
yelling at the clerk and then to the supervisor they agreed to my
demands and cut me a check for the money. I hold in my hand at this
very moment a check from GTE Visa for exactly 33 cents.

Sounds like a great idea. Let us know how you get on if you try this!

I'd definetly try that. I've already used those free postage envelopes to mail back all the other pieces of junk that I could fit in them.

One question tho : Are sure it's enough just to selotape it to a brick? Would the brick not have to be 'enveloped' by the envelope to qualify?

That is genius, :D and so simple! I hear that back when accounting systems weren't computerised, you could really piss the phone/electricity companies off by slightly overpaying your bill every month. I've herard stories of people getting phone desperate phone calls being asked to stop when they tried it

only the bills themselves will have your personal details... the rest is usually generic marketing bill inserts, and the return envelopes have no record of your sending it.

Someone wrote into the letters section in the Times today saying that in Brussels you can get a sticker from the local post office with "no junk mail / flyers please" and stick in beside your letter box. I presume companies have to obey the householder wishes or get a heafty fine.

I don't think so, if you don't want to arouse suspicion at the post office, you could gift wrap the brick (which would add to the comic value). It's worth a try tho

just thinking about this - surely the company have postage paid for the envelope only. This is a set fee arrangement with An Post depending on the size of the envelope.
In this case, the brick would be rejected straight away.

I think pigman is right on that one

I have a shredder, which makes a lovely grinding noise as it pulps that kind of stuff. You can opt out on big mailings as stated and there is new legislation proposed to help on that score. I suspect there is a regulation somewhere that prohibits that. Blocks in the post could mean guards at the door. :D

    and a linky

No. postage paid is done through accounts, the postal carrier meters the returning envelopes and charges accordingly, it is possible that an oversized item would be rejected but only if the account had set restrictions.

If you have access to free paper/photocopying another revenge is to copy the return envelopes and send back a huge amount extra, it'll cost the spammers money in postage and waste their time opening piles of useless envelopes.

I suppose you could try one of those small cannisters of CO2 that they use in the life jackets that you inflate by pulling a cord...and a condom or somethin :D for that essential extra stretchiness!

What I think would be a great idea is if you could rig an airbag like device into a small parcel. So when they open it the airbag inflates right in their face! Only problem is that airbages use explosives to inflate the bag... "scratches head :) "

    a letter bomb?
thats illegal. stop that. stop it now.

Another good idea for that would to line the inside with some bubblewrap, add some small lengths of lead and BAM!! .. much more weight so higher bills for the company :D
