Hey, Im looking to hire a car in Spain for about 4/5 days.
what sort of insurance should I be looking at buying?
I have the VHI travel insurance for myself and the missus, CDW and Theft are included in the rental, so what else should we get?
I presume some sort of third party is required?
Can you arrange this through your car insurer over here?

    Thanks!

Car hire companies include third party in the hire package, the thing to look out for is the excess; this is the amount of any damage/claim you have to pay. There is usually an option to reduce or remove this for a few € extra per day, well worth it IMO.
All of this should be laid out on the car hire website, just read all the conditions carefully.

Transferring your own insurance to a rental is not usually an option, rental companies don't generally allow it.

Agree... carjet are by far the best and cheapest car rental company ( half the price in some cases :) ), plus extra drivers are free.

carjet looked good allright, but I want to pick up in barcelona and drop off in Gerona, and they arent quoting me.
    any other sites?
europcar seems good but I cant find out what the excess is or the cost of buying it out, same for avis...
bloody annoying, they all want you to "ask at the desk"

So they want you to book and pay before telling you the terms of the hire? That is fukking outrageous and probably illegal.

    www.holidayautos.ie

www.argusrentals.com - use promotional code dublin05 for more than €20 discount. I had problem in France a couple of years ago and these guys were very helpful when I rang them and then sorted out refund also.

www.autoeurope.com - these guys offer an additional premium to ensure that there is NO excess to be paid when you have a prang.

    www.carhire300.com

www.skycars.ie - used to use them but they are no longer at the races in terms of price. They are brokers for 2 or 3 companies, one of whom is National, who have constantly let me down over the years, well in France anyhow.
