I'm thinking MKD students VS LUMA students in a battle royale type situation. That would rock!

You'd never resist AC Slater's double leg Tim.

    It's the strongest martial art.

You liar, being AC Slater is not a martial art, it's a way of life!

Only through revolutional Mick Kwon Do training methods can a man achieve a state of AC Slater.

I was hoping that photo wouldnt come back to haunt me. Me and mario had some good times, as you can see, but i've long since put the weight fluctuations behind me.

    what is mkd?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

    The meaning of mkd varies.

It is sometimes translated as "the way of Mick's hand". More often it is considered to be "the way of the murder hands".

It is a complete street, ring, cage and indoor fighting system comprising of learning to defend yourself in all nine ranges.

dont think its my style then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

Can I also point out that MKD is such great value as it offers 9 ranges rather than the paltry 3 offered in MMA schools.

dont think its my thing so

    The nine ranges are...

    1) Striking range

    2) Clinch range

    3) Ground range

    4) Verbal range

    5) Stealth range

    6) Remote range i.e. internet or phone.

    7) Projectile range

    8) Resting defenceless range

    9) On the knees range

Mick himself is quoted as saying

"MKD is the strongest martial art. It is brutal and uncompromising and not for the faint hearted. Is there anything as lethal as MKD? You've never seen that!"

I'm hoping you will print an interview with the great man. ?
Personally I like to hear the story behind how he came to be known as "potato famine slammin " mick :D

Well John now that you mention it...

Interview with Michael Leonard (7th Dan MKD) founder of the MKD 9 range system
    Hello Mick

Mick: Hello Colum, Always a pleasure

So Mick tell me about yourself...
Well Colum, it might surprise you to learn i wasn't actually born with the secrets of the nine ranges implanted in my mind by mma cyborgs from the future (at this point mick laughs, rather nervously). I actually led a relatively normal childhood up until adolesence.

At this point i took up Tae Kwon Do and watching star trek, as many adolescents do. My favorite character was always Wesley Crusher, as i found he was someone most teens like myself could relate to.

Of course many of my peers found this geekish, saying things such as Lt. Worf was obviously much cooler. Unfortunately none of this has anything to do with MKD, its just something thats always bugged me.

    Why did you start MKD?
Well thats an interesting story, i started in my late teens, having seen some early UFCs, when i thought to myself " i could obviously beat any of those guys, its obvious". Using this as a mantra i began to cut and paste various martial arts moves i had learned from years of practice in various dojos, as well as stuff i had picked up from years on the streets of a lower middle class area of dublin

I always found the concept of three ranges very limiting, as combat is evolving constantly. One of the first things i started was to always wear my gumsheild, initially as mouth protection, but this lead to the development of the verbal range

You see, anyone can be mouthy, and then get their teeth busted in, but when an mma would wear a gumsheild on a night out he or she would find their verbal skill a lot more difficult to use, due to having not tried to call someone a cad, or something stronger, against a resisting gumshield. By always wearing mine, i soon developed new methods of insulting people which helped me get aroun this problem

In a few words what is the essence of MKD?
Brutality, but leniency. Uncompromising, but willing to learn. Lethal, but only in the wrong hands. I'm dropping a Nuke on the world of martial arts with what i'm doing with MKD

Some would say that having 9 ranges is unnecessary. What would you say to these people?
They are wrong colum, and i really hope they dont find that out the hard way. Each of the nine ranges is equally important. Each one can save your life. For instance, the resting deflenceless range is one often overlooked by pumped up mma'ers looking to ring someone in a fair fight with srtict rules. What if your suddenly attacked by a woman your sleeping with ala James Bond and Xenia Onatop?

    Ask me about Mario.

You have some very famous celebrity clients such as Mario Lopez from Saved by the Bell. How do you know Mario? Are you good friends?
Its about time you asked about Mario. (Mick pretends to laugh but he seems serious)

Yes me and mario go back aways, to before his saved by the bell days. (and yes i realise this contradicts the timeline established earlier, but MKD transends chronology). Mario, as we used to call him, was a struggling actor wanting to work his way into a tough guy role advertised for a new show he'd read about.

What better way to research than MKD. He approached me interested in learning how to fight for tv, obviously thats not how MKD works, but i lead him along, teaching him the real stuff with him realising.

We became firm friends to this day, dealing with the vagries of fame and fluctuating weight together, and i still consider him to be my first, best and thus far my only student.

What does MKD represent for the future of martial arts?
Well i see mkd as the great beacon of hope for martial arts. We live in a changing world folks, one where internet attacks are a very real possibility. Dont believe me? Look up the statistics!
Hopefully as more and more of the old cobweb ridden establishment realise what mkd means to humanity we will finally reconcile our differences, and everyone will join together under the protecting spike covered umbrella of Mick Kwon Do.

And finally Mick what is the strongest martial art?
Mick Kwon DO, you've never seen that!

    Thank you Mick.

Thank you Colum, see you in the future!

What does the Mick think of allegations that this is just a tawdry rip off of Rex Kwon Do as seen on Discovery Channell and "Napoleon Dynamite"??

    Musashi,

I directed that question at Mick.

What does the Mick think of allegations that this is just a tawdry rip off of Rex Kwon Do as seen on Discovery Channell and "Napoleon Dynamite"??

MKD is far from tawdry. I don't even know what tawdry means. My martial art is an essential element of human evolution. It hasnt been concocted, it has always been - it just took me to invent it.

MKD is a knee in the penis for the martial arts world. People take note, MKD is back and it's here to stay.
