Things do see/do and shop for in NYC.

I'm going to be in New York for 3 days in a few weeks, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips - mainly as regards shopping but also as regards the best things to do in a short time there.

The main things I want to buy are a good Digital camera, possible a Digital camcorder (depends, is it worthwhile because the US format is NTSC and we're PAL, so might not be a good idea), probably some clothes and gifts. I know Macy's is huge and has all this and lots more but I'm just wondering where's the best? I know B&H are supposed to be good too.

Also, if anyone has tips on the best things to see and do, send them this way.

    Thanks!

as far as shopping goes. skip macy's, its rubbish. go for bloomingdales, abercrombie and try to get to woodbury common. its about an hour outside manhatten, but buses go all the time from the port authority. hundreds of shops with discounts.

as for sites. times square is a must. empire state, is cool, but be ready for ques. battery park is good for a laugh, and you can buy an "authentic" rolex for a tenner.

i'd suggest the art mueseums but prob not for a short trip.

ground zero is right beside wall street, but to be honest. they're noot realy worth the trip.

Yeah B+H should be your one stop shop for everything to do with cameras. If they havent got what you want then its not worth having.

    VERY IMPORTANT!

if you do go down to times square, there are lots of electrical shops with cameras and the likes, DONT pay the asking price. Only for a mate telling me the day before i went i would have been out 100s. Ask how much something is, then ask is that the best they can do for u, then head for the door. Most of the times they will stop you before u make it to the exit. offering a better price, do it again, and again untill u have them down as far as u think they will go.

Dont buy tapes for camcorders in times square either, and watch them like a hawk, they will try give u the wrong item. even after they give u the box, open it back up and check everything again.

Most of all, enjoy its a great place!

To be honest i wouldnt buy ANYTHING in times square, its all a rip off and everyone is out to scam you there. Think about it, its tourist central. As for thoses camera shops around times square, they are the most ignorant ****ers ever and dont know how to close a deal, not that i was going to buy anything there anyway. They all proceeded to begin shouting at me and abusting me when i said that i wasnt interested. Wow id say they went to harvard business school!

    heh
One of them told us that they needed the sale to pay for the air conditioning which needed $17,000 to fix it.
Fair enough it was very very hot.

As for shopping- go to woodbury common
Gap jeans for $10 thats 7 or 8 euro folks and just a small example, theres 100's of "high street" outlets and designer places there and a sony store.
