Hey guys im in the market for a new guitar and wondering wat to get? (sorry for another one of these threads) I play a jackson warrior XT at the minute and i find it really comfortable to play but i want a guitar that i can alter the tunings easily. Also i would like a warmer clean sound. I play alot of stuff - punk, metal, blues and other so ill need something versatile. I wouldnt mind a guitar with volume controls for both pickups either. Ive been thinking of a gibson sg. By the way i play through a marshall 100DFX with a digitech DF7, ns1 and an autowah. Budget about 500 sterling.
    Thanks in advance

I already have an ibanez SA160 and although i like the clean sound better than my jackson i dont think the humbucker has enough cut (dont know if thats the word). Although i dont kno much about ibanez sz520qm (not really a gearhead). Would it be better than the sg? An sg seems like the only thing thats ticking all the boxes as the min but when i played one the other day the fretboard wasnt as fast as my jackson. Anyone got any other ideas or would it just be gettin used to the feel of the guitar?
P.s. I tried to play a strat a while back and i sounded **** - i dont think my technique suits whatever way its made or again maybe just not used to it?

Well, I really like my SZ, more than a lot of higher end guitars. Check out Schecters too.

The thing about the Sg is that, while American made, it's at the bottom of the Gibson line so it kind of balances out. Korean quality is getting a lot better. The Ibanez would probably be better bang for the buck.

True, but if the man wants an SG, there's no harm in trying that one out. It could suck, it could be amazing, either way I reckon that price can be hacked at.

Antisocialiser, just try out as many humbucker equipped guitars as you can (if the strat sound doesn't do it for you, then himbuckers are the way forward). Bear in mind, guitars in shops are usually set up dreadfully in my experience and I believe most guitars these days can be setup to a very decent standard. Also, Karl Hungus noticed a few interesting Tokais which might tickle your fancy too.

Dude, if the pickups are your problem, why don't you use get new pickups?

Has anyone played one of these? Is this a versatile guitar? Im mostly riffin brand new-esque at the min but i play lots of stuff.

The sa160 is low end and so the wood affects the tone as well as the pickups right?

oh btw it wasnt the tone i didnt like with the strat i just cant play it - i fumble notes etc
