This may seem like an odd question but bare with me, it has some sort of engineering basis however bizare.

If a lighthouse breaksdown, for somereason becomes inoperable what happens?

Is there some sort of system that alerts the Lighthouse Authority straight away that there is a problem or do the authority rely on the people in the locality to raise the alarm?

I cant seem to find the details on the interweb thingy.

This article by The Commissioners of Irish light answers your question, if not directly. Look like they've all been automated and remote monitored since 1997.
