how do you deal with your bitch? (providing you have one!)

spend a lot of my time playing online. she gives out about it....Constantly!

yesterday was playing for a few hours and then took a little spin for a home game.

anyones ears ringing from "femittus" - constant ringing in my ears due to relentless nagging.

any help or anyone in the same predictament?

will i get rid of her and get one of those "full size L.A. latex real models"?

was gonna put it in the "personal issues" section of the board but they have real problems.
pointless going in with this little minor descrepancy!
think i`d meet more like-minded or like-situation people here.

    any suggestions welcome!:)

My last girlfriend was shown the door when she started the poker rant. She was a smoker and somehow didn't understand my logic when I compared the madness of paying €30 a week to slowly kill yourself to doing something I enjoy that I make money from and doesn't damage my health. Any future girlfreinds who aren't supportive get the same treatment so unless you are a losing player I think you should get your priorities right and give her the boot. :D

Actually I'd love to know what HJ (or anyone else playing full time) says to girls when they ask what he does for a living and what their reaction is if he tells the truth.

I would suggest that you take a good look at your priorities. Poker & Girlfriends/Wifes/Partners can be easily balanced but only if you want both.
If you are a losing player and want to keep your girlfriend then give up or limit it to once a week, it will save your pocket as well as your lovelife.
If you are a winning player then share your time and your wealth. I usually take 10% off my winnings and give it to the Handbag fund. If I spend 3 nights in a row playing poker then I wont play for the next few nights.
Dedicate some of your playing time to satellites for tournaments in exotic locations, nice holidays = more time playing poker.

    and another thing.....

she used to complain all the time if i switched over the telly, she always got her way though.
but know, since i`ve got broadband can she watch all her precious shows for hours on end with no complaints from me!
corrie, eastender, emmerdale, fair city, sex and the city, desperate houswives all the stuff on living t.v and whatever reality show is on,
    on that given month,etc. etc.

she likes watching hours of t.v.

i like playing hours of poker.

    she doesn`t understand the correlation!

any ideas to get her off my back? roses? even for a week or two and it`ll fizzle out til next month!:)

    Hi,

A couple of methods that may sooth your furrowed brow:

    1) http://accessnewage.com/articles/HEALTH/psyack2.htm

and of course the HOT HOT solution of the week ( now available in new, improved models ):

    2) http://www.ericisgreat.com/tinfoilhats/

I think it is safe to say that once you start using either (or both) of these methods, your current problems will disappear like morning dew on a summer's day.

Desperate Housewives is actually quite compelling viewing.

Ah jaysus well played again Ken. This sneaking in totally unrelated but amusing links works a charm :)

By the way with a gf you need to adjust your pot odds calculations. Odds pot is giving v the % chance of hitting outs - % of boird maintenance lost if outs missed

I would hold onto your b**ch (as you so elequently put it ) as tight as possible because with the personality you have you can consider yourself fu**ing blessed to have someone stupid enough to be with you. I was going out with a devout Christian girl for some years, eventually moved to her country....all was rosie except for the fact that her parents didnt aggree with Poker. How can you disagree with poker, its not as if it ****ing well argues back at you.......anyway the father, stinking rich and crazy about Jesus ...probably well into the twelve diciples as well......sits me down one night to have a ittle chat in ones ear. Anyway the chat was shaped around the fact that he disagreed with playing poker for a living and disagreed with poker completely....i tried to humour him for a while but he wasnt listening and started telling me what God woud want me to do........anyway i turned to him and said 'yeah well, at least poker actually exists'......we have never spoke another word........come to think of it me and my X girlfriend dont talk much these dasy either.....LOL

poker is taylormade for bachelors and bachelorettes(to keep on smurphs good side). its like the game was invented just for bachelors to keep them away from more unsavoury things. 'at the casino almost every night of the week, thats a bachelor right there'.

They're right, we are. I got my wife to pick me up at the luas last night after being in croker. It was about 9.30 and I was hammered. Got home and she said she'd make me a bite to eat (to try and sober me up). when she came back I was sitting at the computer playing poker. Bast*rds I tell you.

This thread is brilliant anyone with a significant other who doesnt play knows this situation.

I find that I have to tell what I call "poker lies", she knows I play a lot and she knows it pays for some of our more luxurious items, However when she asks "What you thinking about?" when we are watching tv/ in the car etc it is unavoidable that you have to lie sometimes.

Example: we are having dinner on a friday night and she asks "What would you like to do tonight?"

Answer running through my head: Send you around to your freinds so I can tackle an online game without having to listen to the moaning.

Answer that comes out of my mouth: "I dont know babe, will we go for a drink with your sister?"

And yes I know its pathetic.

My other half is kind of to blame for me taken up poker....we were on one of these stupid cruses around the Caribbean (on our honeymoon) see she made me go...I wanted to stay in Orlando near all the roller coasters etc.Me and very hot weather don't mix well,so while she was up on deck getting a "tan" (we had been in Florida for a few weeks, how much of a tan can you get) I was down it the casino...it was great crack loads of yanks with more money than sense, much better than been up on deck with all the vain people. So she cant moan now.And the best part is her tan is long gone.

Come to think of it she is quite understanding so I cant moan to much, back at the start of the year we were taken a new baby home from the rotunda and I had to make a pit stop to get tickets for some poker event.Never said a word about it.Now that I think of it maybe she was just tired from this labor lark woman keep going on about and did not realize what I was up to.

    Funny thread :D

Its all part of the rich tapestry that is the work/life/missus/ManCity/poker balance. We all know from the off that girlfirend/wife (especially if you have both) is -$EV but ya gotta love em. I can thank Big Brother for my playing time at the moment, while she goes off to some eviction party, I can happily play away in the 50/50. But since I have been seeing my current lass, my poker time has certainly been trimmed quite substanitally. Roll on Vegas in 10 days time, lads only and as much poker as I can fit in ;)

    To get back on topic.

I think that if you play a lot of poker it influences many aspects of your life, including your relationships with everybody you know, not just your significant other. It's very difficult for someone who doesn't play poker seriously to understand the lives of those that do. Most people can't understand how a decision that cost you 500 euro could still be a correct decision, and that you have to take risks to play the game properly.

I have found that complete honesty is the only way of reconciling my poker playing and my girlfriend. The most I have ever lost in one night of live poker is €1000. It was hard to tell her about it but if I didn't I felt I'd be risking our relationship. I talk about poker a lot, which I'm sure can be boring as **** for my gf, but at least it means that she has a quite good understanding for the requirements of playing poker seriously. I don't play for a living, but I've probably won as much playing this year as I have working, so it is quite a substantial part of my income.

I've spoken to quite a few professionals and semi-professionals about this subject, and the general concensus is that relationships with people who don't understand or don't play the game are nearly almost doomed, and that those same relationships without honesty are definitely always doomed.

I agree with Shortstack's comments, and I always make time for my girlfriend. I enjoy epending time with her more than I enjoy playing poker, and it's important for me not to forget that. When I have a big win, she always benefits from it, though this is not an attempt to sate her, more because if I could bring her for a good meal or give her presents any time, I would, but big wins give me the money to do this. We both celebrate any good results. After all, she is more important to me than poker, and I think if you've got that clear in your head (if it's true for you as well) then things are slightly easier. You must keep perspective on how much poker is affecting your relationships with others, if it's affecting them negatively you must look at why and attempt to rectify it. Particularly if you are not relying on poker for a living (even more so if you are losing), you must not let it consume you as it has consumed many many other people.

If your girlfriend doesn't understand your poker-playing and it's getting to be a big part of your life, you must make the decision for one or the other. either re-evaluate how much you're playing poker, and what benefits it's bringing, what damage it's doing to your relationship, etc; or kick her to the kerb and accept a life of proabable celibacy.

Absolutely, but what about players who are not professionals nor semi pro or even close who are letting poker take up too big a part of their life, and there are many. Those that don't have the ability to make at least a solid second income from poker shouldn't really be putting more time into poker than they would playing sunday league football.

If they do then that's a problem and in that situation I can totally understand the ladies getting a little bit annoyed that they're not getting the quality time they deserve. If I wasn't a particularly good player and I had a choice between treating my girlfreind to dinner and playing an online MTT I sure as hell chose my girlfriend every time. If you don't then you're just a sad bastard really.
