    Hi,

I am trying to order Sky DSL through their website but I am having problems. Does anyone know an alternative way of ordering the service.

Secondly has anyone had experience of this service?. I've heard it is very good. I am going for the basic 'Classic 1' Package.

Are you talking about the DSL packages available to Europe (Sky Italia mainly)? If so, I don't think coverage is great here.

I have got the Skydsl service and i had problems ordering (back in march that was) it works a treat and is excellently fast. I'd advise you use Telecom 2d as it has a stronger signal over Ireland. I am in south kerry and it works perfect there, i had nightmares with Eurobird if your getting it install to Telecom 2d its simply easier, a meter will probably be required. I bought one to install mine.Although i know a guy who got lucky with a compass and a steady hand. Several people advised me when i was installing both here and in the real world to use telecom 2d as the satellite to use for Skydsl. hope ou get it going as its a great service. I'm expecting it to provide my broadband for the next 5yrs at the rate the incompetant government are "rolling out broadband" if they just helped eircom we'd all have it ages ago.

I'm using SkyDsl at the moment also and find it excellent and would also advise on the 2d transponder which will work from a sky dish and lnb if you have on to spare. Thats what they supply anyways with the DVB/USB box complete with instalation for €129 and within 1hr ur up and running. My package is €55 a mth but i have very good speeds and have never had a problem with the services, there are cheaper packages but as with most things you will always want it a little faster, for anyone wanting broadband where theres no hope of geting it, in fact even if i was likley to get dsl 2morrow i think id stay with oneway satellite.

How does the upstream work - is it through conventional dial-up?

Yes the up stream is through dial-up/isdn and is really only any good for surfing and downloading, hence the one way satellite reference but to be honest one way satellite is better than 2 way and a hell of a lot cheaper, i say that with gameing and other time critical apps in mind but if you stay away from the main satellite providers who make you pay outrageous prices for the hardware and monthly subscriptions and kinda do it yourself and then get isdn in theres no reason why you shouldn't have a passable broadband setup cos if your in a situation waiting for the main telco provider then you may as well move house.
I couldn't belive my luck when digiweb went wireless in my area,
i live less than 2mls from there transmitter and still can't get BB hell eircom have me on a split line so i can't even get isdn, so if it wasn't for sat id have to use 2 cans and a bit of string, some country to be living in......

What are the co-ordintes of Telecom 2d?

Depends on where you are actually for instance if i gave you Cork co-ordinate and you were in Donegal you could be way off when it comes to Dish installation. I'll try find co-ordinate if you let me know where abouts you are. PM me or post here

you really would be better off asking this in the broadband from as they would be able to advise you of alternative options
