My Bro-in-Law got a pair of Ry Ko grappling gloves from Argos yesterday!!

    http://www.5starsites.co.uk/shop_margos_c_Boxing$$equipment_1.php

They have a load of other gear also!! It will be really great for kids and younger MA'ers to get there hands on some gear to get them started in MA's!!

Has anyone seen the grappling gloves? Or tried them out??

I saw all that equipment ok while glacing thru the booklet the other day.

Have my eye on the leg stretching thing. Are they worth getting? I'd like to work on my flexibility.

Saying that, i'm not sure that its much cheaper to get it from Argos than if I got it thru my instructor.

Grappling gloves? What would you need gloves for grappling for? Just curious.

Oh and Memphis I wouldn´t recommend a stretching machine - I´ve used a few and haven´t been overly impressed.

    Memphis,
for the stretching look up any articles by Tom Kurz, he's the daddy!
I had his book until my old instructor permanently borrowed it :)
His video is probably a DVD these days and could well be worth a look.
Or you could try my first instructors leg stretching "machine".

Get a chair and a nice carpeted floor, and a biscuit tin lid.Step on the lid, flat side down, there ya go,and using the chair seat for balance just start sliding into your stretch keeping the muscles nice and relaxed. Also mentally, don't go "Chreest this hurts, this is the suckiest suck I ever felt goddam this is hard".Replace that with "That's not too bad,I'll hold here until the muscles relax and now I'll slide out another bit".Your brain telling the muscles it's not too bad and ok to relax really helped me.

When you start getting well bendy get another biccy tin lid and stand on both, using the chair to prevent to sudden a descent to the floor! After a run or when well warmed up is best and don't rush or bounce in the stretch!!
Even ten minutes after a jog can make a big difference, and a little often seemed to work better for me than a big mad session and a week of crippling pain :)

I think what paul is trying to say is he incorporates alot of cross training into TKD, such as pressure point applications, focusing on patterns and the reasons behind movements, weaponary, etc etc etc. He's probably one of the most open minded MAists I'll come to know in the year and a half to 2 years of training in MA. A great guy Paul, and he's seminars are amazing, just don't let him use ya as the dummy when he's demonstrating. Right Paul??....... wink wink

No, I'm jsut a prick, and I'm be the first to admit it. LOL

Anyway, 3 cheers for Paul. If I was in Cork I'd be training under him. Don't get me wrong Mr O'Brien is great, in fact he's brilliant, but Paul has opened up my mind to areas I'd be interested in explored more of... such as PP's and patterns applications, etc.
