No Satellite Signal - sunlight problem??

    Hi all,

I'm looking for advice or explanations.

For the last few months, my satellite signal seems to disappear quite a lot at 11:00am and re-appear about 5:00pm. It didn't happen yesterday but is again happening today. I have noticed that it mostly disappears on sunny days like today. Yesterday was raining...

As I have recently cancelled my NTL subscription with the intention of getting multiroom, I am anxious to get to the root of this problem and what I can do to rectify it. Can any one suggest causes or solutions?

I am in the south-east and the dish is chimney-mounted.

    Thanks in advance!

    Ger.

Is the dish in full sunlight? It may be something to do with the mounting or even the dish expanding in the heat of the sun and thus changing the shape (Or if the bricks its mounted on are expanding, moving dish off line of sight). I had something simular when living in the UK but this was when it was extremely cold at nights and early morning. (Wall shrinking)!

Another possibility is a temperature related fault with the LNB. Do you ever get the fault only manifesting itself partially i.e. complete loss on some channels intermittant breakup on others and rest ok ?

    Thanks for your replies guys...

I've had the dish for three years now and this is the first summer it's happened.

Snaps, I doubt it's a shrinking or expanding issue. Today, everytime the sun went in behind the clouds, the signal was back perfectly. It disappeared when the sun cam back out.

Ulsterman, to answer your question... I haven't gone through all the channels, but let's just say that every one I've checked has been affected.

    Regards,
    Ger.

sounds like an lnb/cable temperature related problem

I am having a similar problem which only manifested itself yesterday  . Everything was going fine until about 11.30am when a "No Satellite Signal being recevied message" came up on all channels. I checked the signal strength and quality all were zero. I put the Digibox into standby and unplugged the mains gave it a few minutes and tried it again still no luck.

I then noticed that I had some stuff sitting on top of the air vents on the box (Panasonic 3yr old), so I took them off and unplugged the box again and left it for about 2 hours. When I came back, plugged it back in everything came back fine for about 20-30 minutes then it went again, same story "no satellite signal...". I went on the web saw some stuff from Sky about going into the installers menu to reset the power (I think) to the LNB etc whihc I tried to no avail and then as a last resrt I tried to force a software upgrade. Nothing worked so I left it plugged out all last night in a hurry this morning so did not get a chance to try it but I think I have a hardware problem some where. Do these Panasonic boxs have a life span ? Does anybody know a good engineer in the Limerick area ?
