There is a new radio station called Choice FM. They granted a temporary licence by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland to broadcast to Dublin over 15 weekends between August 6th and November 13th.

Here is their website http://www.choicefmdublin.com. You can make requests etc.

Yeah - have had it turned on in the Kitchen for most of the day (DIY-ing).
Whats nice about it is that the songs and their pace are consistent. There is no 5 minute advertisements. The news is short and sweet.

I think its a great idea. Kinda fed up listening to the other stations - who play dance music after a love song and never do more than 3 hits in a row without a natter session.

sorry but that's the same old drib drab you'll hear on any other radio station playlist

these speciality licences should go to stations that are gonna do something different than every other pop station on the dial

I beg to differ. I'm sick of listening to 2fm playing a love song followed by heavy metal .. followed by rave!

    I want easy listening music. Those who want news have news106, alternative - Phantom .. ****e DJs Fm 104 .. boring 80's 98fm ..

Choice plays easy listening and no talk. Did you actually listen to it .. or just post your negativity??

And I'm sorry - but these speciality licenses should go to the people who have made radio in Ireland what it is today. Like Phantom - it was once a Pirate .. they should stop giving licenses to people who don't have a clue how to run a station .. and give to people who have experience.

I'm just basing my opinion on the playlist posted above. EVERY other station is playing James Blunt, Dido et al in constant rotation so do we need another? I can't listen because I'm not in it's coverage area. The fact that there are no dj's is not a good thing, because without presenters it ceases to be radio and just becomes any other mp3 playlist.

Seriously though, I think it's a waste of a license that could have been better used.

Who said there was no DJs?? I listened to it - therefore I can say that it was unlike the other offerings and therefore worthy of a license - you didn't and therefore all you can base your opinion on is a list of songs and not how they were presented etc ..

    Finto...

That was the fastest 15 weeks ever! They did the top 100 easy listening count down yesterday. Station closed at 12 midnight. I think they did a great job! I listened in a fair few weekends - that sample playlist above was rubbish.

Best of all was the "profiles" show, which was on each Saturday at 6pm and in it Shay Healy did a biography of a singer/ song writer. He did The Eagles one week, and this week he did Abba. There was another DJ "Karl's Cocktail Shack" and that was really good too. I thought it was a great station, bit of humour in the DJs. It might not have been everyone's kettle of fish, but I liked the choice of music .. don't know what I will listen to over next weekend .. back to my mp3 collection I guess. Pity that ..
