    Hello there chaps.

I'm stuck in a rut here, as I know Apple have practically abandoned the G4 and IBM and the iBook's and Powerbook's they're selling, well their days are numbered to say the least with Apple cosying up to Intel in the processor loveshack. Does anyone know or have any inkling (jesus even a hunch) that Apple will unveil a new Powerbook within the next two months? I know the 12" iBook got an upgrade last week and is practically identical to the 12" Powerbook (except €500 in the price) and i'm wondering if we'll see a new Powerbook in the near future. I wanna buy one now god damn it and need help.. shall I wait for a *shock/horror* announcement from Apple next month unveiling a new Powerbook or buy the bastard now?!

I reckon you won't be seeing any Mactel's till sometime next year.

Steve Jobs said as much but he also said that Apple had so far failed to deliver a portable G5, but they have plans to ship new G5 products? is it just me or is he saying in a bizarre fashion that there will there be a G5 (even in a butchered form to compensate for being portable) in a Powerbook within two/three months ?(i.e. before they batten down the hatches and go all out intel). I mean the current 12" Powerbook for its price is a joke compared to what you'd get from Dell/Fujitsu Windows laptops.

I'd hold out for a month for the mac expo thingey in Paris, there might be some details there.

IBM have unveiled a low power G5, but I have heard of no plans for Apple to incorporate it into Powerbooks. It could still happen though.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they use IBM's new low-power G5. (Which is very impressive; considerably lower power than the G4 used in the current laptops, and competitive with a P-M). Switch to MacTel won't be for a while yet.

When do you guess we might see the beauty of a G5 in a Apple laptop Rsynott dude?

    I want a dual-core G5 widescreen Powerbook.
I dislike Macs btw, but it would be a lovely bit of tech to put in a display case.

I was thinking along those lines too, a dual core redesigned G5 would be sweet as I think single core G5's have hit a brick wall performance and power consumption wise. I really need this new Powerbook to come out soon, I need the chap for web design & heavy duty graphics manipulation only twin G5's can give me while i'm on the move!
