    I have this idea of opening up a specialist doll shop. any idea where i could sourse unusual or unique dolls. or any other advice would be great. thanks

    Have you done any kind of financial analysis? What kind of margins could you earn? What would your running costs be? Who is your target market?

    To me, I'd imagine that the number of people who would go out of their way to get to a 'specialist doll shop' would be tiny.

    Sell online only, use OSCommerce and 2checkout.com for your shopping cart.
    Your costs will be insignificant outside of stock & there will be no risk involved.
    An even easier option would be an ebay store.

    Thats it exactly, a niche business like this is unlikely to survive if ran in the traditional sense. If you go online you'll have to mark yourself out from the competition in some way with a unique feature - perhaps the Irish angle?

    Yip online is the way to go. You would be bonkers to open up a retail shop.
