    Hi,
Just curious, is there any program or any solution to increasing my screen resolution? In Desktop>Properties>Settings it only goes up to 1280x800 which makes everything a bit too big, I prefer being able to see more. Is there any way to get higher resolution

    Any feedback appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like your monitor only supports a max of 1280x800. So I don't think you can set it higher.

goto advanced -monitor- properties and you have to install different drivers for your monitor, install ones from a big 19inch monitor should do it

if you screw it up just boot into safe mode uninstall the monitor drivers and reboot

ps is it one of those big widescreen lcd tvs, cause they are crap

most new monitors will show up a screen message from the monitors software to say it cant except the resolution, and also the same with refresh rate.

That's a rather strange format (1280x800). You'd expect it to at least allow a 4:3 ratio.
What model of monitor and make of graphics card have you?

    it's a widescreen laptop

    Hi,
    Thanks for the feedback.

It's actually a laptop I have, this one.

Here are the specs of the screen and graphics in the Technical Specs link:
    Display

15.0" XGA TFT LCD with 1024 × 768 pixels resolution

15.4" WXGA TFT LCD with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution

    16.7 million colours

    Graphics

Integrated UniChrome™ Pro IGP with up to 64 MB of shared video RAM or,
NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX Go5700 with 64 MB of external DDR video RAM, supporting both 8X AGP and Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0b

External display at up to 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, 85 Hz

Simultaneous external display at 1280 x 1024 pixel resolution, 75 Hz

    Dual independent display support

    MPEG-2/DVD hardware-assisted capability

    S-video/TV-out (NTSC/PAL) support

Do you think the idea of getting the drivers for the bigger monitor would work? Interesting indeed:)

    Ahh, ok, 16:10 then?
I'd imagine a laptop screen wouldn't be bigger than about 17" and couldn't display higher than that res, but I'm not too well up on these things.

you can try it but it's doubtfull and may damage your laptop, 1280x800 is the maximum supported resolution, you'll just have to get used to it

my laptop has a high res of 1280x 800 any more than that and id assume it would ruin my monitor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Ruin it physically or just until I uninstall the drivers and replace with the originals?

you could physically damage the monitor

ja hay is us!! Think I'll just have to stick with this res then:(

There is definitely no program that will act as a 19" monitor and relay that signal back to the laptop monitor if you get me?

not that i know of, you can hook up an external monitor to the laptop and get a resolution up to 2048x1536 depending on what the max resolution of the external monitor is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Nah I don't think I'd be fussed with that. It'd just be nice if the res was a bit higher. If there was a program like the above idea that's be pretty nifty though

id like to have a higher res screen but if you think of it they are pixels so 1280 x 800 fits exact
any more and id assume the image will get squashed abit like a widesceen image on a 4.3 television.

but then again it may not because of hardware limitations.

sounds like your laptop screen physically only has 1280 X 800 dots on it. there is no way to get it to show more.

if you hook up to an external monitor you may be able to get a higher res.

OTOH if all you wanna do is see more on screen, try 'small fonts' in your desktop setup.

    thats it exactly

All I want to do is display more on screen not really increase the resolution, just display more, like have images and stuff smaller to fit in more, that's why I'm thinking if there is a programme that will just squash everything a bit more. Like when I have a poker program open, before I could have 4 windows open no problem, now even 2 is a problem:(

is there anything that will just squash without changing the res? I tried change the font size but it doesn't do anything to images on web pages etc. thanks for the feedback!
