Saw details during the week of a company in Dublinthat will pay you to display ads on your car. Either on individual panels or even complete wraps of the car! I can earn from 70 euro to 300 euro a month just to drive as normal with this ad...but will I look like an idiot? Would you do it? the way I see it, I can earn close to 1000 euros towards a great holiday by displaying the ads for three months! seriously thinking about it....your thoughts will help me make the decision!!!!! :D

Sure you can go for it for 1 month, and if you're a bit embarressed about it, don't go on with it. Only one way to find out really.

if i had a car id restrict it to the rear window, but sure you see these boy racers with every brand name over their car.

    the taxis do ads aswell

    what are the ads?

looks like the smaller ads like on the back window or along the sideskirting pay the least, so once I get over the embarrasment, I reckon I should go the whole hog and have a complete wrap. Minimum contracts are three months but its money for nothing really...and no-one will steal a car that looks like a coke can or mars bar ha ha!!

    Yes.
The money you'd earn wouldn't even pay for the repairs to your paintjob after someone 'keys' it.
We're already so saturated by advertisements that I'd forgive anyone for dragging you from your car and beating you to death.
"Stuck in traffic? - Drink Sprite!"
Aarrghh get out of my head marketing scum

people will probably think your a taxi or something.
I guess payment is dependant on how long you spend in your car... they aint gonna pay much if you only nip to the shop in it now and again and leave it in your garage for the rest of the time.

I'm actually surprised something similar hasnt been done before - or perhaps more print design on car bodywork by the manufacturers.
I wonder if you are allowed to select the product / company advertisied.... dont fancy driving a mobile tampon advert around!

Who are the company? Any more info and restrictions? I'm sure they wouldn't really fancy doing a wrap on an old banger.

apparantly, they are just setting up. They were stopping people in the street to sign people up as a pilot scheme. Saw two of their cars in Galway. must get some more info

you guys seem very difficult to persuade to get free money for driving!!! I understand you can refuse any ad for any reason so you wouldnt be stuck driving a tampon ar anything like that. It makes sense to make the most of wasted space on the car, especially when stuck on the m50...every day......for four hours!!! just what the ad companies want!

So, this is you first postings on boards.ie
From experience, and analysing your tone of voice - I'd say you're actually here doing market research for this company :D
    Ain't I right? ;)
You have to understand that advertising is a touchy thing for many people. Sure, we like a good funny ad in the cinema, but the power of advertising and use of ad space are coming under much attack. Just look at the success of Naomi Kleins "No Logo" and all other anti-corporate message movements over the past few years.
It may be a source of revenue, but many simply dont want to "sell out" to big corporations... even though many of these same people go around wearing clothing with "Abercrombie & Fitch" or "Adidas" plastered on the front chest.
This advertising simply isnt the norm now, so of course people will feel stupid about it.

You will always will get some people willing to do it, but after that, its just going to be too much clutter - and thus defeating the whole purpose of a unique source of outdoor advertising.
It works well for taxi drivers, as their cars are their own sources of income... and anything they can do to increase it is worth their while.
Anyway, cars tend to be objects people spend huge amounts of their own personal income on, meaning they are very close to them. Not many people want to taint them with advertising. It's like putting billboards on your house walls.

despite the tone of voice that resonates from my posts, I am not market researching this topic for fee or otherwise!!! I guess I am just playing devils advocate trying to push people in the direction of justifying my decision to go ahead with the adverts!!!!! its a big enough decision to make, so the last thing I want is to look ridiculous because of a decision that wasnt thought through properly, hopwever your comments make sense and I agree too much clutter just dilutes any effort in the first place. txs for comment :-)

If you do go ahead, you may as well get into the next type of advertising thats coming mainstream.
This fella did it... so can you :p

that seems to be taking advertising a little too far..but forms of media advertising are evolving all the time. It was only 15 years ago that the thought of advertising on a computer screen was hilarious. We move with the times, and in 15 years time, it may be more hilarious to have a car or a forehead WITHOUT advertising....as the saying goes...If it's not broke, don't try to fix it...

    Or your insurance.

Good idea for anyone who has 3k insurance bill this would practically wipe it out.

although would yer insurance go up as technically would ya still be just using the car for domestic uses ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Interesting OldYellar, and would this go under a modification in insurance too?

If you had a banger it would be great, no risk of making the car devalue etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

Yea Id defo consider it if the insurance didnt go up much for it , I knoe people would say oh dont tell yer insurance company but then if ya do have a crash they defo wouldnt pay because one of the principles of insurance being utmost good faith an all that.
Do ya have to be in Dublin to do it though?

I guess it would be cool to have a cool logo design on your car, and I like the idea that no-one would steal your car as it would be totally conspicuous!!

If they 'wrap' your car (is that what it's called?) I guess it would stop rust too (believe me, that's a great thing on my old banger!!). What would be the maximum age of car?

Maybe this is how I pay off my credit card!!! :D

I reckon I'd do it and save up to buy a nicer car. But then again I hate stickers and facial deformities on cars, so it's a bit of a conundrum!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 JayLo99

you'd better look out for me around the streets then....I could be a Bud can or a Bag of Maltesers or something!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

For those who wouldn't do it, would you feel the same about plastering your own company logo on your car? I intend on plastering mine on a nice car when I get one:D

Depends on what the business is too Cormie.
    What is your business btw?

Yeah I suppose so, I don't think if I was manager of a Spar I would wrap my car up by my own accord. If I was a tradesman I would definitely advertise on my van.

My business and the said logo are in my signature.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 barkeeper.ie

I can verify that advertising on cars does work and needn't be intrusive or cluttered. Attached are pics of my vehicles which have been on the road for 6 weeks. In that tme, business has increased in the areas we have driven and it creates a feel good double take effect wherever we go. It's not often you see a website advertised on a car so makes for further points of difference. Best investment in advertising we have made.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Nice, that's what I want to do with my logo aswell. Now is that a wrap? How much did that cost do you mind me asking? Who did it? The cheapest quote I got was from beesigns, Tallaght. I think I'll be doing mine on a VW Polo, keep to the 1L engine, keep the insurance low;) I'd love to have a Focus to do it on though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 120 ✭✭boardsee

Nice job on the van barkeeper. That looks sweet, not overly done.
What do you think of the 307 van to drive, is it the 90bhp engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

I am hereby going to trademark/patent Adblock for Real Life™

Back OT,if I had a car then yeah, why not? It's (relatively) free money

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 barkeeper.ie

this looks like a full wrap, but is actually a number of individual vinyl prints. The back window is a one-way see through mesh with printed logo. The best effect is when we "convoy" our two vans together. This is the 90bhp peugeot and is great to drive. huge acceleration and very responsive.
