I have heard from a mate in the uk that Sainsburys are selling the S5500 for £199 including case, tripod & cleaning kit - I really want this camera & wonder if anyone knows if Sainsburys in the north are selling this??

    Can anyone help?

That's about €300. Which case and tripod are they giving away? The deal sounds OK, but it may not be such a huge bargain as you can get the camera for under €300 here. You'll be needing more than a 16Mb xD card too (way more important than a case or cleaning kit) so you might get a better deal here or online.

    Alun,

Just been onto the site & it seems a FAB deal, just wondering about the fact it says the manual is in French?? Have you ever bought from this site? Do the manuals come in English? I am a complete newbie to higher spec cameras & deffo NEED the instructions.

    Thanks.

I got my 5500 from Pixmania and the manual came in 4 languages including English.

Even if yours doesn't, you can download the full manual as a pdf file from the fujifilm website. Link attached to reassure you ;)

Thanks Sarsfield. How do you like the camera?? I have been considering the Z3 as well as I have heard good things about both. Then I have also seen this camera which is 5 million pixels 10x optical & 5x digital for about the same kind of money!!

Help I am confussed!!! Maybe I should just go for the Fuji? Any advice will be very gratefully recieved!

No, but I've bought from technikdirekt.de in Germany, with either the usual multilingual instruction book, or a supplied manual on CD (Olympus). I couldn't find the S5500 on their site, which is a pity because they're often able to undercut even nomatica.ie and pixmania.com.

BTW, the reason they're dropping in price may well be because Fuji have just announced the S5600 (S5200 in the US) available from September which is the new improved version of the S5600, so there'll be a lot of old stock around that they'll be wanting to get rid of. They've also announced a 9MP version, the S9500 which looks very nice indeed.

Alun, I have looked at technikdirect.de - thanks for the link. Whilst they dont have the Fuji they do have the Kodak Z740 which has slightly better specs than the Fuji & they have it with a printer dock for €395 which is pretty tempting! Does anyone know if this is a good or bad digi?? I need something thats easy to use & has a fast shutter speed & a macro setting.

Any help or advise will be greatfully recieved :)

You should check out http://www.dpreview.com/ for reviews and comparisons of different digicams. It's a terrific site and helped me decide.

There are very detailed reviews of the cameras you mention. Note that the S5500 is known as the S5100 in America.

Also thinking of a new cam because the tried-and-true C5050 broke down and Olympus is a nightmare with servicing it in Ireland. Considered Z740 also but eventually I'm going to choose either S2 IS or DSC H1. Or maybe Fuji S9500 if I can wait that long :) BTW, I prefer dcresource.com (especially handy is this link http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php), though dpreview.com is also good. OK, going to eBay to check prices again :)

Cheapest place I found H1 was on nomatica.ie, €430 or so. It's €600 in the Sony Centre in town!! Even with a load of extras, it still comes in under 600 on nomatica. Have yet to find a good price on the S2 IS.

Yes, Nomatica seems to be the best option for H1 but Pixmania is better for S2. The thing to note about Pixmania is that it's generally cheaper to order on their UK site rather than on the Irish version. Specifying delivery to Ireland works on both. ;) The following comparison shows the current prices (including delivery):

    Pixmania (UK)
    DSC H1: £ 307,90 (445,59 EUR)
    S2 IS: £ 331,90 (480,32 EUR)

    Pixmania (IE)
    DSC H1: EUR 444 (349,68 IEP)
    S2 IS: EUR 496 (390,63 IEP)

    Nomatica (IE)
    DSC H1: EUR 443.45
    S2 IS: EUR 510.45

Are Nomatica and Pixmania one and the same company?

Do Nomatica have the same credit card issues that pixmania have? Having to fax off id etc?

No, they don't seem to be one entity. By the way, I finally got S2 IS but found it's not what I need so it's for sale now in FS General. I'll have to wait for S9500, probably. Fuji was much friendlier in my previous experience but Canon is definitely the last thing I'll think of buying after this one.
