I cant wait for the 360. Im really looking forward to it.
I do see it doing incredibly well in a PS2 like way
Why? Its got no competition. Now I dont mean its the best roxorz console and others wont compare, its that it literally may have no competition for a year! Rumours of the ps3 being delayed till 2007 and with the cubes less than staggering sales performance people may not be rushing to buy the Revolution (i will though). So the 360 has a huge share of the market for a very long time.
When the PS3 hits people may not rush to get it. Or it will become like a new generation of console, people will see the 360 as the previous generation as it will have been out some time

........I shall stop blabbering on as of.....THIS moment.

looks like a good machine, but it wont outsell the ps3, whenever that is released. MS still need to learn how to market their product and while this machine should close the gap, they still have to convince people that playstation does not equal great gaming. Unless Sony screw up, it's going to be very hard.
I just hope it doesn't launch with a poor line up.

I have to say I'm very excited about it. As a FPS fan I am looking forward to seeing essentially what the original xbox was capable of, done better. Prey, Gears of War and then eventually Halo 3 will all cause salivation on my part. I am a huge fan of RPGs and Microsoft seems intent on really pushing the 360 towards that market. With Squeenix signing up, bioware continuing relations with Microsoft and talk of MMORPGs on Live tis all very exciting, RPGs also could be the Key to cracking the far east - frankly they love them. With Squenix seemingly catering for the new console Microsoft could really make an impact there which would do nothing but benefit gaming as aa whole. There be good times ahead for us gamers..I plan to lord it up.

they should have put in 2 video outputs, connectors for 2 person multiplAYER games ,ie 2 tv displays for nonsplit screen games like halo ,timesplitters etc,the ps3 has double display modes, and put in drivers 4 wireless mouse and keyboards use, like the pc has ,for use in gaming and i.m. or typing commands in games or messaging modes.wudnt it be great to play halo on 2 tvs with a friend in the same room,,not everyone has acess to broadband at the moment ,even if u have money your line may fail quality test.i understand u may be able to use usb keyboards, but its microsoft product ,they know about keyboard design, for many gamers u need keyboards for fast fps games like unreal.

Microsoft said they are putting this in but its up to the developers whether games support it.

what RPGs have they got planned? I found the XBOX was fairly poor for RPGS.

I think the big point will be the price of the PS3, I was reading a extract from an interview of the guy who heads the PS3 devolpement and he said that alot of people wont be able to afford the PS3 initially but will have to work very hard for a few months in order to buy one.Nice way to market your system :)
Yea apparently the guy who said that is a bit of a dick

    Xbpx bad for rpgs???
    KOTOR and Fable anyone?

will the 360 be backwards compatible with games ?

or will i have to keep my xbox ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

yes, backwards compatible, so when u get 360, mod your xbox, and use it as a home entertainment system and 360 for games!! :)

i wonder will they give us the 1 controller in the box and make us buy the 2nd.

if so how much will it be ?

and will the old xbox controllers be compatible like the PSone controllers on the PS2.

yes, more than likely but they'll more than likely include a remote control this time as well. Oh yeah, apparently you'll be able to power on and off the xbox with the wireless controllers which is handy

no they wont, which is a pity if like me you have a full set of xbox controllers.

They have The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion planned. It is the sequel to Morrowind, one of the best games around IMO. It's almost reason enough to buy the XBOX 360!

the xbox 360 will only be backwards compatible with the best selling games and apparently it will come with (the console, one controller, 20gb hard drive and a scart/red yellow white wire and a HDTV vga wire

On an interesting aside the reason they didn't include a DVD remote the first time had to do with keeping the cost of the XBOX down. Since Sony and Phillips invented the DVD they are entitled to royalties on both DVD movies/music/software and also on DVD players. I think the royalty is a percentage of the hardware. Since the XBOX without the controller can't play DVDs, Microsoft didn't have to pay royalties on it but only on the remote.

i just saw the new video on xbox360.com and some of the games look fantastic. quake IV is gonna be great. just select the john madden picture to watch the video.

theres a great looking zombie game clip about half way through the movie. its mindblowing. so many sprites on screen. looks like the bus bit in dawn of the dead 2004.

still, the kill zone 2 vid for the ps3 looks insane (cant be in-game graphics!) so xbox is ahead imo. pricy though...

    cnat wait!

I gotta say that although I dont like microsoft i think they are on to a real winner with the xbox 360 they have a huge advantage in the release headstart and the fact that by the time the PS3 is released the machine will have had a price-drop and halo 3 will be released. Also, the revolution is gonna really have to pull something special out of the bag if it is gonna succeed against these two heavy hitters. As far as I know the killzone 2 footage is said to be "real in-game footage" but that doesnt necessarily mean that the gameplay will be actually that good - it is still killzone remember! sony always promises as a lot and delivers on "some" things- (dowloadable ps2 content ne1?) so we will have to wait and see if they can prove their worth.

I think people who like FPS the most should stick to the PC for their games machine of choice as the community is much bigger and things like mods are being made all the time - its also commonly accepted that the mouse and keyboard combo is the best for this style of gameplay so this should be an important feature for a top-class FPS heavy console like xbox360 - tbh im gonna stick to the PC version for all the FPS games like COD2,Quake 4,prey and gears of war.

Another trend which is more Ireland specific is that people who dont know about games tend to call all consoles "playstations" which is something MS will have to dispel with their own advertising - i hope they dont come at us with brash american advertising like they did last time, which willl only serve to alienate the machine.

I guess everything we see on video and in magazines is really just pie in the sky 'til the actual game is sitting in your new machines drive and you can have some time to play it. Speculation like this killed the Dreamcast as people bought the lies about the power of playstation, and now, it seems, we are buying Microsoft and Sonys nonsense all over again.
The demo pods of the 360 should be in the stores in 2months or so and I guess we can make up our minds then.

Another thing is I have it on very good authority that there will be damn all machines available here in Ireland due to the global launch week, the machines are spread very thinly, concentrated in the US. The pal territories will probably get feck all, so get your pre-orders in now.

I think microsoft have a good chance of making the 360 a success mainly due to their incredibly brilliant marketing skills i.e. halo 2 ($125m in 24 hrs) and fable. But i think a good point was made about people only knowing about "playstations" as the rumours about the ps3 being launched in 2007 are around because sony is thinking about releasing a cut price ps2 ($99 stateside) around 360 launch to cut down on microsofts gains.

Only having ever briefly used an xBox once for a few minutes in HMV, I'm obviously not an avid 'Box gamer. But considering the looooong wait until the PS3, the 360 may well tickle me fancy. If I do get one, it'll be probably be a while until I do so, fingers crossed that the price eventually goes down.

It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. At the moment, there's not many stand-out games for me on it... lots of filler tbh. Though Quake 4 and Project Gotham 3 look guite interesting. TBH I'm far more interested in the Nintendo Revolution.

Can M$ beat Sony next generation? To be honest, I don't think so. The PlayStation name is far too entrenched in people's minds at this stage for Microsoft to take the lead next-gen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,227 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

i assume halo 3 will be for the 360 which is good since i hope to have a hdtv by chrismas and playing halo3 in hd is going to be some experience :D

overpriced with a crap lineup of games...
think i'll wait until it's killer app comes out (and if that turns out to be Halo 3, not bother at all...)

But before the original Playstation came out were people not saying the same about Sony trying to take on Nintendo? All Sony can do after all is Walkmans. ;)
