    Hi,
I have a few questions about my new laptop. I'd appreciate any help I can get:)

First off, my new laptop has a widescreen display and I can't seem to set the resolution any higher than 1200x800. I have ATI X700 card and when I go to the advanced options of Desktop>Properties>Settings I get my ATI menu and when I go to "displays" tab and then PANEL it says MAX is 1200x800. But I've a feeling there is something missing as when I play this video it looks as if I have Predator vision and the colours are all messed up. The colours on everything else are normal though. Any ideas?

Another thing is on the driver CD I got with the new laptop, it has everything from graphics to touchpad etc. But it also has a CPU driver, however, the CPU driver is for Athlon 64 and I have a Turion processor! Do they both use the same drivers does anyone know?

Next is DVD playback. IS there any free programme that will install the required DVD encoder to allow you to playback DVDs and that will also play the DVDs for you? There is a program on a cd with the laptop, it doesnt look the best though.

    Any feedback appreciated, thanks! :)

if it's a new laptop, the video thing may be lack of the appropriate codecs, so install a pack like k-lite, and max resolution is of your monitor not your gfx card so 1200x800 on a laptop sounds reasonable to me

also media player classic comes with k-lite so use that for dvd playback

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply, what exactly is K-Lite and where can I get it? And is media player classic the Quicktime alternative or something else?
    Thanks

    http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm

media player classic is an alternative for quicktime, but it also plays back dvd's/vcd's and plays pretty much everything i can throw at it

    Cool,
Thanks for that, now if I click all the options will it install a load of crap and programs on my HD or will it just install the codecs? There are loooads of options. What did you go for? If I don't click DIVX Video and DIVX audio will I not be able to see/hear DIVX videos?

Hi cormie... did you get the 5021?

on my 5021 when I go desktop >properties >settings I can get max resolution of 1280x800.

Hi, yep I got the 5021:) It's great but I much prefer higher resolution which is a bit of a pain, I suppose I can live with it though. Is there any way to get higher resolution? I like to be able to see as much as possible. :o

AOD, thanks, I'll give ticking everything ago, I just hope it doesn't install allot of un-necessary crap on the HD :(

Dumb question: is the colour depth set properly? (i.e. as high as it'll go, say 24- or 32-bit?)

[edit]It's a WMV using Windows Media audio and video codecs, both version 9. It's possible these need a reinstall too, maybe?[/edit]

AFAIK, The Turion is little more than a low-power, low-voltage Athlon 64 - there are two classifications, one with a thermal design envelope of 35W, the other is 25W. Very little else in the difference.

    Just in case it helps...
