Why must sky digital subscribers in Ireland have to pay for Setanta Sports while NTL subscribers get it for free? Anyone know if this is going to change?

it is kind of ****ty that its basic for ntl but premium for everyone else. not a whole lot can be done about it but i'm not too fussed as there isnt a whole lot there that interests me. the premiership (15 games) and to a lesser degree Serie A. thats it really. i'm not a fan of Scottish football at all so the added bonus of Celtic and Rangers channels dont interest me at all. if there is a game i have to see i will go to a pub for the 2 hours.

if on the the other hand they did a deal with Setanta channels and NASN then maybe, but not as it is now

i cant see this changing at all tbh

edit: Bravo will showing Serie A on sunday nights and a recorded game on wednesdays :)

NTL has to offer "special" as otherwise they are losing out to Sky. If Sky was losing subs to Chorus/Ntl (now one), they would be offering more. But Sky is having quite good growth and low churn, so is unlikely to offer a Premium pack channel in a Basic package.

Setanta is an incentive channel for NTL. A channel that they can use to tell subscribers that this is free on NTL, but pay elsewhere, so why bother leaving NTL/moving to Sky?

It would be interesting to see what value NTL actually place on Setanta.

We have NTL analogue and were going to get rid for multi room with Sky until Setanta came along on NTL. With 15 Premiership games a year on it now, we won't be getting rid of NTL for now. Between Setanta, RTE, Sky Sports and Prem +, we get to watch a hell of a lot of footy :)

I also have Sky and feel ripped off re this.
Shame I cant get ntl where I am located otherwise I would take up ntl Digital in the morning.
I only want to watch Munster in the CL (when I cant get to the matches) and dont fancy paying sky even more money for a few matches.

As someone who misses National Geographic and Eurosport, I'd say they drop them in a heartbeat if they could get any half-decent channel cheaper.
