X800 vs X700 Pro

    Hi all 'a ya

I'm getting some money together for a new PC (my first, actually ;) ) and I need some opinions.

I'm sure that you may have heard of HIS's ICEQII TURBO series of Radeon cards. Anyway, I was looking at getting one of these to make sure I can play games at reasonable settings, but as I'm buying a lot, I'm having to cut some corners.

So, while browsing OcUK I found these 2 beauties: The X800 and the X700 Pro of the aforementioned ICEQII cards.
The problem I have is deciding between the two.

So, simply put, is the X800 better than the X700Pro even though it has slower core/memory speeds (398vs460, 910 vs 960), costs more (around €40), but has more parallel pixel pipelines (12 vs 8)? Also, as it's gonna be a SFF (small form factor) PC, would it generate more heat, or is that nothing to worry about? (I prob won't OC)

    Thanks for any advice

X800 Pro has faster core/memory then XL, but XL has more pipelines, and it beats Pro in benchmarks and games quite easily

the heat depends on your case, but generally, if you don't OC, it should be fine

be adviced though, many people here reported that OcUK aren't very good if god forbid something happens to the product.

Actually, I think it's just a vanilla X800 (no monikers). I'd like to get something better, but can't stretch to an X800XL--though if I could, I'd rather get a 6800GT!

If OcUK aren't that good, can you advise someone better? I can't find that card anywhere else for the same price...

I have a x800xl bought from overclockers. I had to rma it and all went fine. I emailed them if there was any advance on the rma after about 2 weeks and in a reply if was told it was on its way back, took a few days for it to get here. So dont be to scared to buy of them.

I know the x800 pro and xl are better than a x700pro but not sure about the non pro/xl x800.

As a side note: I dont know how much room there is in the SFF your getting but this HIS cards take up two slots cause of the cooler being so tall, you loose the slot the gfx card sits in and the pci slot next to it.

Kiki, I had to RMA some fans back to OcUK, and it went fine for me, but like I said many recommended against them here, so I thought to warn you, since you are going to be shelling out lots of money.

and btw when I said many people recommend agianst them, I meant only when they have to RMA, other than that, they are fine, I've ordered fans and stuff like that from them, always got them in 3-4 days max, nicely packaged

other ones? well there really aren't many, Komplett, that's it

but I think, if the price is right, it's worth a risk, since you are basically risking with every company. And there isn't much choice anyway, until newegg arrives ;)

I'm having trouble finding X800 reviews as well; seems that everybody online reviewed the X800 Pro 1or2 years ago, and then forgot about it. Though Custom PC #24 has a Gigabyte X800 as it's mid-range choice (still), so I guess I'll stick to the X800.

As for the case, it's an OcUK Value/Aries X-Qpack Cube; slightly bigger than most SFF cases. The MoBo's an MSI RX480M2-IL which has 3xPCI. Seeing as I'm putting a sound card & network adaptor card in as well, I should have just enough space for all those.

Pity about newegg; I've heard them mentioned on every US site there is.

If I'm risking, I'll keep the risk low and only order from 2 or 3 companies then; less companies=less risk (fingers crossed)
