I have a modded xbox and I am looking for DVD playing software. Although my current mediacenter plays DVD's it does not display the interactive menu at the start of each DVD. Depending on the DVD it will go straight into the first scence or it wont play the DVD at all. Any suggestions would of great help to me.

    Thanks in advance

download it, and ftp to apps folder, then it should show up under "applications" in evox, unleash whatever you use.

Even easier yet, set the dashboard to load up the normal MS dashboard when a DVD movie is inserted and it'll load up the standard dvd player in all it's glory. I've this set up in unleashx and it works fine.

On another related issue. Does anyone know if there's a way to (satisfactorily) play DVDs that are stored on the hard-drive? Other than stacking those VOB files in XBOX media-centre. The normal x-box DVD-player only plays from the DVD-drive. Playing the VOBs does work, but the controls in XBMC are awkward, you need to mess around till you get the ordering right and all interactivity (front menus etc) is gone out the window.

Has anybody heard of any Bad People using a hacked version of the DVD-player software that will play from drives other than the dvd? Or plugins for XBMC that can parse the DVD-scripts?

I managed to get reasonable DVD playback from a ripped DVD iso file. I used the isoripper included in the driveimageutils package (download from www.xboxscene.com) to rip one of my DVDs to the xbox HD. Then I went to my videos in XBMC and it played the iso image. The only problem was that fast-forwarding too quickly caused it to crash and the skip function using the gamepad didnt work. Maybe a future version of XBMC will fix this issue or maybe it was just the DVD that I tried. It might be worth trying to rip a DVD to an iso image using a PC utility to see if the problem lies with the xbox isoripper (which is designed for games not movies)

btw you need XBMC v1.1.0 Gasgiver 10-08-2005 edition (it doesnt work in any other version I tried)

XBMC should be able to do it very soon. In fact, the latest releases have limited DVD player functionality with menus but you need to compile it yourself. Playing from the vobs should be possible too which would be favourable for dvd2xbox users. People are suspecting it will be released to the public in the next few weeks!

Another handy function on the new xbmc is the ability to play movies straight out of multipart rar files over a network share almost on the fly (the cache folder is used)
