    Hello

Going on holidays next week, and only realised on Monday (bank holiday) my passport was out of date so need a new one. I have the time available to queue up at Molesworth street after the weekend for a new one, just wondering do I need to bring my Birth Certificate. It's currently languishing in a place so, um, safe I'm not sure even I can find it

My old out of date passport is readily to hand..will that suffice, or am I looking at an afternoon trip to the registrar of births/deaths/marriages...

any help, my endless gratitude, etc!

    GT

I'm pretty sure you still need your birth cert...

I submitted an application the other day. Didn't include a birth cert as it was a renewal and included the old passport in the envelope (Passport Express).

It doesnt take that long to get your birthcert either. I got mine a few weeks back and was only waiting about 10 mins

Great - thanks all. kinda suspected as much; with a renewal, you've jumped thru the 'I am who I say I am' hoops and so, they take the old passport as a de-facto birth cert.

Now I just have to convince 'em that the baldy bastard in front of 'em is the same as the *sigh* hairy one of ten years ago... :o

    What documents should be enclosed

    1. Complete all sections of the application form correctly and legibly. Don’t forget to enter your signature on the peel-off strip.
    2. Enclose two recently taken passport photographs.
    3. Have the witness section of the application form and both photos signed by a Garda Síochána, for applications made in Ireland, or by a member of one of the categories listed on the form for applications made abroad.
    4. Enclose Proof of Citizenship, if this is your first passport application, or your most recently issued passport in the case of renewal applications. Photocopies are not acceptable.
    5. Enclose the appropriate fee.

see point 4, if it is just for renewal then all you need is your last passport.

I needed my birth cert, I guess that's just if you're under 18 then!
