Freeware software for resizing and resampling images

Looking for some freeware software (or a downloadable Photoshop action) that will resize and resample large images into a pre-configurable format - eg: creates images 50%/60% etc the size of the original. Dont need a photo gallery - just a new resized image for each image in a directory.

*edit* Oh yeah - and I must be able to point it at a directory, press a big red button, and hey presto - I get the resulting resized images ready for uploading to my website. ie: I don't want to have to manipulate every image as I go - like I do now in Photoshop.

Any suggestions most welcome. The manual method is beginning to tire me :)

    Thanks in advance

I've heard Gimp is good, but you might need to be running a linux OS to use it (not too sure)

The windows port of either Gimp (Gui) or ImageMagick should get you the results you want.
Yep Gimp comes for windows too, not too great for automatic stuff. ImageMagick have some great tools for automating image resizing etc.

I have a program at home that resizes images to what every you tell it to, can do it in batches as well i think.
Will look it up later when i get home if you want?

thanks for all the replies. I tried Irfanview, and it does the job nicely. Very configurable, lots of options, works in batch mode very nicely.

All of the above are great(esp IrfanV and GIMP)

But you just can't beat Google's PICASA for it's easy to use interface.
