Another DVD Problem

Using a Dell i6000 laptop with a Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A DVD burner. I have used this a few times to burn audio/data CDs without problem. Yesterday I bought some DVD+R discs to try and free up some HDD space by backing up some files. The software I have been using is Nero 6UE but it will not let me burn DVD's. I have just updates the firmware to see if that would remedy the matter but no avail. Any ideas what the problem could be?

It just keeps saying burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 Kb/s)

Also it doesn't seem to say that there is a DVD in the drive at all. Just comes up saying CD DRIVE (D:) when thee is a blank DVD in it. I can't format the media either.

Attached is the log report from Nero after the failed burn.

    Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A

According to that and the DVD rewriter logos on the tray it is. According to the logos on the tray it is a DVD writer/rewriter.

Just been researching and apparently a LOT of other people are having trouble with this drive. I'm not sure yet whether it is the drive itself or whether it is a software issue between Sonic Record Now Data and every other DVD/CD burning program out there. There seems to be an issue regarding the DLA of the drive. Now I just have to figure out how to resolve this since I can't uninstall the Sonic Software that came with the computer.
